UHaul tow dolly

I did a search, so please don't flame me........

I am picking up my MC40 next Monday. I have to drive from Houston to San Antonio. It is about 180 miles. What do you think? Anyone used one? I used one when I had my classic clubby. It was a bit of a pain in the ****. What do you reckon?

I have a 1/2 ton pick up so I could rent a trailer.......

Thoughts?

Honestly with a car that has such low clearance, you are MUCH better off getting the full trailer than the dolly.

you know you can drive it too.. save cost of renting a truck + trailer, much more fun, better on gas, get to know the car..

You could rent a car one way, have Enterprise drive you to get your new car, and then drive the new Mini home. You will have so much more fun!!!!

I will ring Enterprise as soon as I get back to Houston.

Don't use a dolly. I speak from experience. At the very least get a full trailer to get the whole car raised.

But like others have said, rent a car or find a cheap train or plane ticket and drive it back.

Congratulations! I'm so glad your MINI purchase is working out. When we bought in 2008, we rented a car one way and drove to Arlington to pick ours up. Moritz MINI picked us up at the airport rental place and everything went well.

Any San Antonio people up for a MINI honor guard/parade down San Pedro to greet this new owner?

I'm in Houston..with a rental from work. Based out of NH. I can drive you out, and drop you off. Just pay gas/tolls, and we're square. I'll even hang around until you are on your way.

Welcome to what it's like to own a Mini, plenty of friendly people willing to help.
(Actually the above quote says it all.)

if you are looking for actual experience w a mini on a dolly, i have my own dolly that i use behind my motorhome...mini does great behind it..the only issue is the straps..you cant release them in a conventional way, due to ground clearance and fender gap..i use a screwdriver to release the mechanism as it doent need to "fold all the way open"

have had no issues towing a variety of cars with mine..just gotta be smart and realize you CANT BACK UP

Pulled my R53 cross-country on a tow dolly behind a Budget box truck. Absolutely no problems at all. Was tight getting it onto the dolly because of front clearance, but not impossible just slow and careful. Rolled perfectly overall. I doubt your pickup would even feel it much.

I completely recommend your tow dolly idea. Even better to hitch a ride on Craig's List to pick it up, and drive it home, but that's always a crap shoot (CL, not the Mini).
