to do an autox run through the cones when you see all of them lined up directing you to a lane closure? I usually don't have that urge as I am usually driving my BMW. However, I was driving my mom's Cooper to see how it was running and I encountered the cone barrier! Oh what evil thoughts ran through my mind!

Every day! on the base where I work they use a 1/4 mile of tasty red rubber cones to separate two lanes of traffic (going in the same direction) on several occations I have hit the string BEFORE the evening rush. . .I have gotten away with it a couple of times, but recently I was stopped. When asked why was I doing that? Isaid that's what the car was made for. . .I had to.

I've carried a 12volt compressor in my last three cars, and my Mini is no exception. I also carry a patch kit, and have found it is easier and faster to patch & pump than wait for auto club. On run-flats, punctures should be repaired with an inside boot patch, but a quick plug will get you to a repair shop. I use my 12 volt pump often, find it is easier than finding a station which still provides air, and alllows me to experiment with different preasures in various conditions. I've found a few pounds up or down, drastically alters the mini's handleing. It's a cheap mod that's fun and can really improve (or destroy), that perfect drift.

Why not buy a set of our own cones and go out to some expanding new residential construction site border street (where minimal traffic is expected) and set up some cones and satisfy your urge or at least get in some auto-X practice. If the police or security guard comes along just say you're the unofficial "drivers ed" for the MINI club.

If you have the latest Road&Track you can pull out the latest MINI advertisement which includes a set of paper, orange cones. You unfold them and you have your own slalom course!!!! It is pretty funny and at the least you can set them up in your driveway to make people think (or confirm) your a little crazy.

I confess I did that once. Not with the MINI but a long time ago in a friends 82 Capri. Great fun.
