04 r53 5/2004 vs 05 r53 6/2005

Hi i'm just curious if there's a difference in the the supercharger and ecu of these two cars? i tried them out and both of them are almost the same but were different to an 2002 model (kinda slow) that i've tried. the 05 mcs has leathers seats, 3 spokes steering wheel and projector headlights while the 04 weren't like that (same as the 2002 model 2 spokes steering wheel non projector headlights and etc). I just want to ask if the 2004 model has a popping sound in the exhaust when you rev your car although the exhaust is borla i'm hearing the popping sound is that normal? or the ecu and supercharger is kinda like the2005 model there

No, the facelifted (2005 and 2006 R53) model has a revised gearing in the transmission, the supercharger was teflon coated on the inside, and the ecu was slightly revised. If you go to that link I sent and read about the changes made for 2005, that explains all the differences in much more detail.

No....the sc was coated (just like the jcw ones previously) on the 2005+ cars.
The gearing is differant on the 2005, and like you found, many small improvements....evolutionary, as opposed to revolutionary.
The article above sums it up.
How the cars has been treated/matained is the biggest differance....

ok thanks does the 2002-2004 has “off throttle” back pressure like popping sounds that came from the exhaust? or any 2002-2004 r53 has that if it has an aftermarket exhaust

The 2005 and 2006's have an ECU that is tuned to make the "popping" sounds more so than the 2002 - 2004. BUT a pre 05 will still make those sounds, especially with an aftermarket exhaust.

That close in build dates, should have been very similar....but a owner might have changed something.....

Software on the ecu...depends on if the dealer/ownet had it updated...different software with diffetrnt maps can make s car feel very different.
I first thought they were one year a part....not a month....the 02 might have had an issue
Stats wise all 3 cars are similar..

Most changes came on 05 pn gen 1 cars performance wise.

Yeah the popping sound is there for the 04 5/2004 build date and run as strong as the 05 6/2004 build date also to think that the 04 model has a stock intake with borla exhaust was as strong or even stronger than the 05 with intake that we tried also the 04 has a mileage of 68k miles compared to a 40k miles 05. Because theres only 1 month difference how would i check if the engine of the 04 5/2004 build date has the same to a 05 model? Supercharger has coated. Will u be able to see it? Or inspect it

You are making this way too complicated...
you know how the car was equipped from the factory...the differances, etc.
Decide if the differance in wear and tear and mantance is woth the $$ differance...go from there.
The SC would require removal to see if it is coated...but all 2005+ cars got them?! Removal is a 6 hr job...reqiring bumper/front end emoval about a 500$ labour wise. Simply put if you don't own the car, you are not doing it, besudes why? It works...why screw with it.
Get the car that seems better mechanicaly, that fits your budget, with options you like....
Other cars will pop up gor sale.
One suggestiin, since you don't know much about mini's, get the car inspected by a mini shop/dealer...so you know what you have. Many non mini places miss many $$mini problems...they can be kinds unique in some aspects.

I'm getting confused, Scoopy. The title says 04 5/2004 and 05 6/2005 cars, now you are saying they are both 2004's. I assume the latter is a 2005 because you mentioned the three spoke wheel.

There are improvements to the 2005 model of the 2004. The popping and gurgle is completely normal for these cars.

If everything looked equally fine (condition wise and wear, etc.) then I would choose an '05 over an '04.

here are the vin numbers td90382 (05 model), TD87955 (04 model) i know the differences between the 05-06 model compared to 02-04. I've already checked it a dozen times. however, i read it somewhere that the build date that started from 7/2004 were the start the of the "05 Model" like the projector headlights, 3 spoke steering wheel, gear ratio, tail lights, etc. however, i have test drive 3 02-03 models and they weren't the same as the 04 (with vin number TD87955)that i just tested. and it's the same as the 05 that i've test driven before. i just like the interior and exterior of the 05 model however, i like the panoramic roof of the 04. unfortunately, in our country there are only a few r53's that are for sale.

so i just want to ask exterior aside is the build date 5/2004 and 6/2004 the same?

I would have to say if the interior OR exterior is different on them, then NO. Just my uneducated guess though

Remember, all advise and info provided here is based upon cars made for/destined for north america...cars made for other markets may have varied a bit....many things were different on our cars vs euro cars for ecnomic/competative reasons....
