Today when I was driving my MINI on the highway for the first time after sunroof UJ flag installation, rear portion of the flag flew away.

I really want a UJ sunroof flag, but I don't like the perforated ones. Does anyone sell "permanent" UJ sunroof flag without perforation? Is there anyway to make those cling-on to stick more permanently?

A friend of mine lost cling-on bonnet stripes on the highway.

Bummer!

The next time I install mine, I may add a couple drops of elmer's glue to the detergent solution used to install it. I've had no problems, and have had mine stay on up to 3-4 months before removing it.

It certainly helps if you can install on a warm day and let the sun bake it onto the sunroof.

I think I'm giving up on the cling-on. Instead, I'm ordering the one with 3M adhesive backing from Cooper Flags. Because it rains a lot here, that might be a better idea.

If you install the cling-on decals in cool weather they do not adhere as well. I installed my US flag static cling in warm weather and had absolutely no problems with it. I then tried installing my all-white static cling decal this past fall and the rear portion flew off the first time I took it on the highway (fortunately, my antenna caught it). I had planned to leave the decals off for the winter anyway so I didn't have to worry about destroying them when wiping snow off the car. I'll wait 'til it warms up a bit in spring before I try to reinstall.

Sorry to hear you lost the rear part of you UJ.

davecsumini -

I posted a thread on this a while ago right after I lost both the front and rear sections of a cling-type sunroof flag which seemed fine after 6 months. The rear went first, followed soon thereafter by the front at relatively high sustained cruising speeds.

I would remove the front portion if I were you as it can really be dangerous if it hits a car behind and blocks their view at speed. I've since fitted the perforated one which is really nice; looks nearly as good from the outside and still lets the light in.

They are sold by Cooper Accessories.

Cooper Flag also offers non clong-on version with variety of patters.

I know exactly what you mean. When I lost the rear one, I saw the 18 wheelers behind me trying to dodge it. Quite dangerous!! I quickly pulled over and removed the front right afterwards.

I'm ordering a non-perforated one from Cooper Flag. With 3M adhesive backing, the flag should stay put.

Bummer! I was thinking of getting the cling Vinyl UJ flag for my solid white roof MCS, but now reading this I am re-thinking about it. Has anyone installed this flag on a solid roof MINI? I would think it would stick on better on the sheetmetal than on a glass surface like the panorama sunroof.

If you want a cling vinyl roof flag and don't want to spend a fortune, the Cooperaccessories flag is your best bet.

I really like the Cooperflags.com stuff but it is very expensive IMO. $278 for a roof flag decal??

davecsumini - I lost half of mine too, I think it was the front half, so I may have a rear half for you. I'll check in the morning. I emailed the vendor and told them what happened, and they sent me a new one free of charge. Good folks.

I'm waiting until summer to put the new one on because I only want it on to block the sun during the hottest 2 months. My plan this time is to use very thin double-sided adhesive tape under the front edge of each half so the wind can't lift it. If you've ever used 3M window film to seal a window in your house for the winter, that's the tape I'm talking about.

Thanks, Ssccote! There's no need, I already ordered a different one from Cooper Flag.

I guess I'll also email Cooper Accessories to let them know what happened. Hopefully, they'll find a way to prevent that from happenning in the future for other customers.
