MINI OBITUARIES-Los Angeles

AAAAAAAARRRGH!

We were walking to the car parked at my friends house ready to go to dinner. Only to find that all the flashing lights and tow trucks were for me and the other 4 cars that a drunk driver hit on Franklin Ave in Hollywood. Parked at the curb and on the corner, JERKO ( 2004 Jaguar) smacked DVL MINI in the rear, mashed him into a Ford Explorer and up over the curb into a sign post. No one was hurt and they hauled off Jerko in cuffs. This idiot was at least 55 and could have killed or maimed any number of people!

Mine was first hit and comes in at $13,800 in damage plus the engine won't start so it will be even more. Agony... but glad we weren't 10 minutes earlier or we'd be toast too.

No it's not too morbid to ask to see pics. I'll post them when I get the files from my friend. Luckily or unluckily DVL MINI was loaded up so I expect a decent settlement. Now what am I cart these t-shirts to Vegas with???

The Classic Mini 40 won't cut it. Maybe I can stuff it into a pick-up truck :???:

I've ordered a duplicate 2004 and will decide whether to buy it when it gets closer to coming in.

RIP MCS CR/B Aero kit, all packages, NAV

Well this IS awful news but you're right, it is fantastic that no one was hurt! I imagine things will work out fine eventually in the MINI department, too, but in the meantime....very sorry.

An event like this could have been too terrible to think about, and.....sadly......often is.

How awful! How long did you have the car?? Drinking and driving is NOT good. I know when I was younger that there were times that I did, but now I am very very careful. I know my limit, which I know is still lower than the legal limit. Especially at his age, he should know better. Wouldn't surprise me if he had priors.

PS, can you still unscrew the valve caps and send them to me? Mine were stolen Sept 2002. Thanks.

I had the car since Nov 02. He was one of the last off the line in August 02 and not plagued with any problems whatsoever.

You want the valve stem caps? That's funny. It had Union Jack valve caps which are now holding little candles for the candlelight vigil. The originals are on my extra set of wheels

That is a bummer, but as has been stated at least no one was injured. Good Luck with your settlement and new MCS

Man, that sucks terribly! But, like you said, you were actually really lucky in a way. Be psyched, because you and your companion(s) don't have any broken bones or stitches or paralysis or whatnot. And at least an Explorer got it, too! Just trying to find the silver lining... Good luck with getting a replacement ASAP.

This sucks.

I lost a car many years ago the same way. I was delivering pizzas at the time, and somehow this old (70, 80?) guy in an Eldorado didn't notice my car parked on the curb, with lights on and a big obnoxious lit up pizza sign on top. I got out to the scene about 10 seconds after it happened, and this crazy guy was trying to get his car into reverse and get his front end unstuck from my trunk, which was now residing in the back seat. I had to reach in an take his keys so the fool didn't take off and kill himself. I don't know if he was drunk or senile, but regardless he shouldn't have piloting 5000lbs of Cadillac in populated areas.

That totally sucks DVL!
I came out of a club to find my door dented in by some arsehole a few years ago, no note, no nothing. Mightily pissed me off I can tell you!
Anyway, if you need to ship shirts or other items to Vegas, you can ship them to me and pick them up when you get here. I know that most of the hotels will accept drop shipments as well. I would think UPS ground would get from LA to Vegas in a day. You could ship them on the wednesday and have them held at the hotel till you arrive on friday. If you do that, make sure to let the hotel know beforehand.

Agro.

Sorry to hear about this. It is good the DUI driver was caught.
Also good that no one was hurt. Not much else you can do to prevent this kind of bad fate.
Maybe your next MINI will be even better. Save the valve caps.

DVL, I am so sorry. My MC got it by a flying random truck tire as I drove down a busy arterial and was out of commission for four weeks (we never identified the a$$hat who donated the tire). But your episode is worse. Please accept my condolences. Thank God you and your friends are OK.

DVL MINI, be glad you weren't in the car when it was hit, i was! a 14 yr old kid in an '84 mercury cougar took an illegal left into me when i was going about 35+mph. he totalled G MINI and took off!!! fortunately a kind passerby restrained him till the cops showed up. he was 14, no license, NO insurance, over $16,000 damage to my car not to mention my med bills! fyi, our car APPRECIATED in value!! she was only 8 months old, fully loaded, 5500 miles, and a discontinued color... no out of poceket cost to order a new one! take care, the path to getting a replacement MINI is a bittersweet one. here is a link to my accident.... i got hit in w. los angeles (they still haven't fixed the guardrails that i went through)

hey DVL, we ordered an '04 PSM(bod and roof same), all 3 packages, rear fog lites, auto dim mirror/auto windshield wipers (my fav. option besides the heated seats!) the exact replica of G MINI...(sigh) this one is a boy and his name is GHOST MINI, we are going to trick him out a bit more than his late sister G. we are hoping for a late Feb. delivery, we live in Venice but ordered both from AZ. we had tried to find a replacement SG/W MC, but none were loaded like ours... best of luck in these trying times... i know your loss, it hurts...

Franklin Av is one lane in most places, that idiot chose the wrong place to drive drunk. (Not that there's a right place).

Glad you're ok, sorry to hear about the car.

LizzyBobbio, cracking me up asking for the valve stem caps, let the guy mourn

Just another reason we need easier access to handguns.
(joke, I think, BTW)
Tis better to be unhurt than in a car hit by an arsehole.
