5 hour drive? No PS fluid? Thanks PartsGeek =/

Earlier this week, i ordered a liter of pentosin chf 11s for my MCS. I also paid an extra $20 for 2nd Day Air so i would get the part by Friday, so i can drive it back home. Ok so Friday rolls around, and the stuff still hasn't showed up, nor have i even been charged for the purchase although it has been "confirmed". Now im down to one option, which is to drive the car 5 hours back home with my reservoir empty.. Are there any last minute options i can try? Please respond if u can

I take it there are no BMW dealers near by as I would grab some before i left if i were you . I did a little on line search and found that VW uses something very compatible and perhaps Audi. Check this thread there appears to be some alternatives .

Hope you get the fluid, there are no options I know of. The bigger question I must ask...why do you have a dry reservoir? It does not just 'go away', so are there drips/puddles under the engine?
My 02 S had a dry reservoir, I found all of the fluid in the outer boots, not one drip. The seals had blown and I replaced the steering rack.
good luck
Mike

Confirmed 11S is the current Audi fluid

11S is the synthetic. Used in Audi's for 15+ years now. Sometimes found at dedicated import car part stores too.

To the OP, from having burned like this before, when I have to have it by date x, I always call to order and confirm everything live. Makes a difference sometimes; had that experience w/ ECS for example.

I have to do my online duty and report that I have had that experience with ECS Tuning myself very recently. With apologies for a temporary thread hijack...

They showed my three desired parts "in stock" on their website while I was ordering and finalizing. After not hearing anything from them for well over a week they told me the parts were "inbound" - meaning still on order from Mini. They even tried to BS me with a phony screen grab from my original order showing that the parts had to be ordered from the dealer. Like I said, a straight-up lie. I'll never order from ECS again.

Im sure you already figured something out, but Like nopistons said, NAPA always has CHF 11S so your best bet is to find your local store and pick up a bottle!

Also you probably have leaky PS lines. One end clamps to your PS pump (intake line) and the other is your return that goes into the drivers side of the rack. I recommend getting the leak taken care of. If that pump starves for fluid and you burn it up, you'll wish you spent the money on a couple of lines.

Good Luck!

You may want to have that Lucas PS fluid flushed out of your power steering system. The only fluid that's compatible with our MINIs is the Pentosin CHF 11s. You cannot run regular power steering fluid without negative effects on the PS pump since the pump was designed to operate with the CHF 11s which is hydraulic fluid. The different viscosity of the Lucas or any other PS fluid will make the pump work harder which in turn will shorten it's lifespan. Mixing the fluids is also another big no-no.

Yea i undersstand, but that was my only option since i had to go somewhere and i had no other PS fluid! No one carries CHF and i ordered some and it never came... Plus the lucas is watery just like the CHF and i havent noticed anything different thus far
