Can someone please do me a favor?

(Please ignore, no longer need Bentley scan)

Would anyone be willing to scan and sent over the section for water pump replacement? This would be for an R50 Cooper.

This is my girlfriend's vehicle which had to be retrieved late last night from the side of the road (now sitting in my garage). I've long been an e46 guy and have relied on the Bentley manual since ownership. Its certainly time for her to get the MC manual, but this breakdown caught us off-guard.

If anyone be willing to do this, it'd be greatly appreciated. I don't mind compensating with a reasonable amount via Paypal either. Emailing to jbfrancis3@gmail.com is the best way to get it touch.

Thank you!
James

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to hold off on the request for now, after having done a little more research this AM.

The bottom crank pulley is where I first saw signs of the issue. There's a terrible grinding sound, metal shavings/debris is being ejected from the base of the pulley, and the pulley itself is wobbling, all when the engine is running.

Knowing nothing about these cars (and examining on a dark road), I figured the water pump was somehow integrated into the crank pulley () by process of elimination - I looked at all the other pulleys and thought everything was accounted for. Except I forgot these vehicles have electric steering (again ) and so I figured what was the pump was the power steering pump.

Anyway, the crank pulley is the culprit but I cannot even begin to imagine what the issue actually is. A spun bearing wouldn't make too much sense on these vehicles, nor would it likely cause the crank pulley to be out of alignment.

Any common ailments on these vehicles that might match the symptoms as described above?

Appreciate any comments/insights!

R50 Coopers have the W10B16, on all models. Water pump shuld be pretty easy on a R50, just take the front of the car off and look.

Sounds like you need to call WAY, and get a new crank pulley. They have a harmonic balance that often fails, over time. They can be a PITA to get the broken one off, but its a pretty easy fix.

Thew only thing I can think of (pulley itself is wobbling) is somehow the woodruff key that holds the pulley came off lose or broke.

The harmonic damper tends of fail on the r53....
they tend to be a bit more relilable on the r50....the two parts are very different when looked at....the r53 has a wide band of rubber...it tends to let go, and slipping/failure occurs...on the r50 the rubber is a very thin band, and it does not seem to fail nearly as often.
good luck...sounds like a mess.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I'm trying to diagnose this by lunch so I could run out and get the necessary replacement parts (if possible).

WAY is an aftermarket company? Do I understand correctly that the pulley and harmonic balance are one?

Also, why WAY over the dealership (besides cost?)

Thanks!

Small update - with others' help, seems that its the harmonic balancer. No big deal, just a little bit pricey for the part.

Thanks to DICKS GARAGE R53, I called up Way Motor Works (who were very nice to speak to) and ordered up a new OEM balancer, bolt and serpentine belt. Apparently, there have been install issues with the aftermarket fluid-filled balancer they sell and therefore they recommended OEM.

Thanks to everyone else as well
