R50/53 MINI "face lift" in summer 2004
Cheers!
New guy here!
Facts:
- Ordered with East Bay MINI (Pleasanton, CA) 11/03 w/$1,000 dep. for '04 Cooper
- ETA April/May 2004
- Cabriolet on sale (Europe) summer 2004 with "minor" face lifts for ALL coopers
- Face lift includes: bumpers, sills, interior "tweaks", roof spoiler, wheels, more
My question(s) to ANYONE who has FACTS...
Will the 2004 "face lifted" MINI Cooper arrive here in summer 2004 as well? If so, does anyone know if I can have my order put on "hold" so I can receive the 2004.5/2005 updated model? Lastly does anyone know if the face lift will include any of the following: Bi-Xenon headlamps, power seats, hands free phone with Navigation.
Thanks in advance for your ACCURATE and FACTUAL information (not your "guess"
.
P.S.
While I make NO claim to be an expert, I obtained this information DIRECTLY from BMW AG while attending the IAA in Frankfurt this past September. Also, you can see photos of the "face lifted" 2004 MINI in the January 2004 issue of CAR (British periodical) and the Feb. 2004 issue of EVO (British).
P.S.S.
I also have photos of vehicles not seen or sold in the U.S. I took while at the IAA feel free to email me at allroadguy@sbcglobal.net if you'd like copies.

Those photos in EVO are not the new facelifted MINI, but you can get a lot of information and photos here: http://www.mini2.com/news/news201.html and then following the news articles that lead off from that at the bottom of the report.

The "facelifted" MINI is MY05, and historically doesn't start production until September 1st, so you can expect to see the first '05's here in the States by the 3rd week of September. There are no rumors of bi-xenon, or power adjustable seats, and also it would be cost prohibitive to impliment these features so late in the platform cycle. I'm not sure about the hands-free Nav.
Paul - nice to see you here!
Cheers,
Ryan

The lights should be changing but I haven't heard of bi-xenons. That being said BMW is known to change things late in the production cycle - just wait until 2006

If you're ordering a 5-speed Cooper, I'd say it's definitely worth your while to wait for the new Getrag transmission on the '05s. The current Midlands one is crap. Mine just failed at 15k, and it's not an isolated problem. The tranny can't handle the extreme cold. Lame.

Yeah I would wait for the Getrag as well - I missed the fact that you had ordered a Cooper. However I would defintely not call the midlands unit crap - it's failure rates aren't unusually high. That being said it isn't has reliable as the getrag historically.
Here's some history behind the Midlands 5-speed: http://www.bridger.us/mini/?Y=2003&M...r5-speedManual

With that being said, when do you think the Mini website will have it so you can set up the new '05 the way you want it?

I am about to order a IB/W MCS, would anyone wait until September to get the 2005 (I know IB might be gone by then)? I do not know if I can wait THAT long. In the long run will a 2004 be worth more or less than a 2005 since the 2004 is the original redesign? Anyone know what mods the interior is getting? A factory armrest would be nice. Thanks!

In the interest of immediate gratification, I'd get a 2004. Why wait? I also think it would be preferable to have the earlier, original version, but I'm a purist.
