hey has anyone noticed that the labour fee for installation of the roof rack varies from dealer to dealer? i have received quotes that range from $220 to $540 for the installation alone. that translates to 2 to 6 hours for labour depending on the hourly rate.
bobsmithMINI quoted me today at 2 hours labour @ $110. per hour so i may go with that and hope that they stay with that price.
any thoughts on this?

Dude, I would get some sort of commitment from them on that, coz Universal was charging around 550. Which is the biggest reason I didn't go with the factory rack.

thanks. i will do that. they are also charging about $500 more to install the JCW so maybe that is where they are making up the difference. who knows?

I paid about $400 for the installation. A rip-off to be sure, but I decided that if someone was going to drill holes in my roof, that I would cough up now and let them fix any potential leaks or problems.

 Ours was the very first MINI to get a roof rack installed back in May of 02 - I believe we got a pretty good deal from Sterling - $195 for installation.

We haven't had one issue with the rack - no leaks, no movement, nada..we love it!!

donna,

thanks. i will call them monday morning and confirm the price. it does make me wonder how the dealers/BMW get away with changing prices so dramatically. thanks to mark for creating a forum that allows owners to be informed.
best, julia

I think he may have meant 400.00 for the install, on top of the price of the racks...
