R50/53 No spare
Because the "Runflats" tires are standard equipment in the MCS. Same deal in the regular Cooper when you either get the sport package or the 16" 5 star rimmed runflat rubbers.
I have 15" 8 spoke wheels/tires in my Cooper, hence I have a spare tire mounted under the car (Underneath the cargo floor).
As much as I dig the 5 star rims, I am still not 100% convinced about the replacement costs associated with runflat tires (About $200 a piece). Also depending on the damage, it seems like these tires are a "One time" deal only and often times they can not be patched and repaired.
I wish MINI would offer the 5 star 16" rims with regular tires (Non-runflats) as an option.

Well, for one....there's no place to put it!
Notice that the exhaust on the Cooper is to one side, but on the S, it's right in the middle...so no room for a spare.
I don't know about the S, but my Cooper has the 16" runflat tires....so technically, I wouldn't even need my spare.

>>Due to the supercharger in the S, the battery had to be relocated to the trunk (lack of space under hood). With the battery in the trunk, no room for spare...not to mention the twin exhausts.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the otherwise excellent MCS. I do not like the fact that this car has the battery box in the trunk floor and no room for a spare due to the presence of the battery and the center mounted dual exausts. What happens if you lose your battery (No power) and can't get to the bat box because the boot hatch can't be unlocked from the keyfob/toggle switch? (And to add insult to injury, the manual emergency boot hatch release is not even there).
In the Cooper, the battery box is mounted in the engine and the spare (If getting the 15" tires/wheels) mounted under the car, the way it should be.

A jumper cable can be attached to the positive terminal under the hood, to the left of the airbox, and grounded to the chasis. This will allow you to jump the car, and/or simply use to get power to unlock rear hatch to get to battery.

Surely you can unlock the door by putting the key in the lock and turning it? And the same for the boot. Otherwise, what use are the non-remote keys that come with the car?

My Cooper with sport package has 16" 5 spoke with runflats. It also has a spare tire. I believe only the Cooper S has no spare due to battery and center dual exhaust. And I think those even come with a Jack now????
