Motor Trend's latest edition highlights MINI Mania's modded MINI. It absolutely smokes any other MINI so far: 245 BHP, a 5.9 sec 0-60 time, and over 70 mph through the slalom. About 5K buys a seriously modded engine & suspension. Tires are extra, as are brakes, since the stock brakes didn't quite match up to the rest of the car. This is a project car, so it's probably not available to the average paying customer, but if it was and I felt like I could afford to go w/out a warranty, I'd be on this like flies on ****!!

Also, the impression I get is that, while it is a project car, the parts are available to the public through MiniMania.

Yep. Seems $4895 buys you their Stage III 245hp kit. Plus installation. And the suspension and brake upgrades are extra.

The $1750 Stage II 205hp kit doesn't look bad either, although I think similar gain can be had through other vendors for less.

245 hp and it still has a 0-60 time of 5.9... bummer.

yah, that time is too slow for a 245hp car.

S2000 does mid 5's on a 240hp NA motor.

Horsepower isn't the only factor. The S2000 is RWD (easier for the tires to hook up). Also, the MINI is geared pretty tall.

You also have to be careful on horsepower claims...

ha, $4800 for a Stage III kit, and the JCW kit is $4500... Hmmmm, pretty obvious!

I agree with Randy, let's SEE SOME CERTIFIED DYNO RESULTS

If they're quoting 245, then what they're probably really saying is that they are at or near 200.

Mini Madness already had a 245 HP Car at the 4 cylinder shoot out. 198 lb of torque. No numbers are useful though because they were driving into a massive headwind. Got the best road course time by 1.5 sec vs all the other front wheel drive cars. -3 Acura RSX Type -S's, Honda Civic EX Type-S, Honda Civic Si, Dodge Neon 2700, Ford Focus SVT, and Volkswagen GTI. All cars were heavily modded. And all had more HP than the Cooper S.

More skeptical than uninterested.

Here's a couple links that talk about the stage 3:

Too bad it's way beyond my reach $$$. The stage 2 kit with borla exhaust would be more in my price range. Luv my S but would luv it alot more if it had even more oomph.
