Found this on the Auto show website.....looks like Dodge "Slingshot" is aimed at the MINI market. It has a 3 cylinder 100HP engine with a 5 speed tanny.

It's based on the "Smart" car platform. Got the right proportions anyway.

If it's RWD and weighs 1500lbs, then I'll be impressed.

I like the front, but the rear is goofy lookin.

This could be the smart roadster in Dodge guise! I had read a rumor somewhere that Dimler(sp?) Chrysler was thinking about bringing SMART to the North American market, but doing so under a Chrysler brand and not under the SMART brand. The pics make me thinK it is a re-skinned SMART roadster. The Smart roadster is close in performance to a MINI but doesn't quite cut the mustard. Though it does bet the MINI in the mileage department by quite a bit. I beleive they are getting in the 60mpg(imperial) range, which is dang impressive and makes up for some less than stellar looks. But then again nothing on the road in this price range looks as good as the MINI!

Oh sorry I forgot, if it is the Smart under the skin, it is rear engine RWD.

Dodge Sling Shot
The Sling Shot is designed as an affordable, practical and fun driver’s car. Creed described the Sling Shot as a design that breaks the rules and makes new ones.

Sling Shot is powered by a rear-mounted 3-cylinder engine that produces 100 horsepower for a zero-to-60 acceleration time of 10 seconds. With a 5-speed manual transmission, the fuel economy is 45 mpg.

The front panel of the roof and the side rails over the passenger area lift off for open-air driving, adding to ane overall design intended to deliver looks and drivability for auto enthusiasts.

It's got sheet metal like the Z4 rear and the Miata frontend.
100 HP and 10 sec 0-60 time. That's about as lively as a MINI ONE. 90HP and 0-62 mph in 10.9 seconds.

3 cyl with rising gas prices? SMART move IMO. I wonder how it fairs compared to the hybrids out there. Compared to them, it looks more fun atleast (potentially).

RE: fugely IS...

I don't see it. Looks pretty ba-dass.

The Dodge won't touch the MINI market w/o a back seat. There's lots of cool 2-seaters out there for sure but if they want to compete with MINI they'll have to match the practicality of its price and potential cargo space......while STILL providing a well engineered car that's fun to drive. Its quite a challenge and MINI hits all these, IMO.

Nevermind the fact that it's a Dodge, and it's probably has only 35 inches of head room.
