Violent car and wheel shake on 2003 MCS after snowstorm

I'm hoping someone can help me diagnose this on my own before I bring my car to the shop.

I dug my car out of the snow that New England was hit with two nights ago and took her out to grab some food. When I got her up to about 45mph, I could feel her shake a little in the steering wheel.

Then it got aggressive around 60mph and violent anywhere above that to the point where the whole front of the car was shaking. The problem persisted this morning. I had to take back roads to work.

Occam's razor suggests that it has something to do with the snow because the snow hit and then the problem followed immediately after. It could be totally coincidental, but without more information it seems most probable.

Does anyone know a cause of this problem that is specific to the snow? If not, any other ideas?

Thank you!

It's most likely that you have/had hard packed snow/ice stuck in your wheels. It's happened to me before. Check that first as that will totally throw off your wheel balance.

Bet the wheels are out of balance due to packed snow/ice.

Sweet, that would be the best case. A run through the car wash would probably fix that, right?

Yep; this is exactly what happened to my mother-in-law in her Geo Prizm this morning.

Yeah, go get it washed. Besides, there must be salt and other grime on it this time of year, especially if you live in NE. lol
