How do the insurance companies classify the Mini? Sports car? Compact? Family Sedan?

My insurance agent stated it would be the same as insuring a Honda Accord.

With my insurance, I was told it will actually be $10 cheaper per year than insuring my 95 Mustang now. So, it must not be classified as a sports car. I was expecting to have to pay a bundle more than I do now and I have a spotless record. It was a very pleasant surprise!

I assume the reg Cooper would be very cheap to insure. The S, however, has to be more and MAY be classified as a sports car, no?

My insurance will not change for what I was paying for my 95 325i. But, I wrecked my 325i, so in 5 months (when my policy is renewed for another six months) my insurance will likely skyrocket!

Neither cooper will be a "Sports Car", (even though they are ). They should be classified as sub-compacts, much like the VW bug, or the Golf. Not too expensive to insure...
