R50/53 Who really buys these vehicles?

I have always owned relativly small funky cars:
15-16 76 Triumph Spitfire with 81 pinto 4 and auto
16-24 73 Triumph Spitfire frame up rebuild with 1500cc/webber card and OD
23-26 87 BMW 325i
26-27 73 Porsche 914 2L
27-28 89 BMX 535is with Dinan turbo
28-30 93 HOnda Del Sol S (WIFE CAR)
28-29 90 Mazda Miata
29-31 69 Chevy C10 350 (complete beater for Home Depot runs)
29-31 99 Mazda Miata with Jackson Racing SC
30-31 02 MINI CS (WIFE CAR)
Moreover I don't believe in owning something bigger than I need. I like to drive relativly hard, very aggressive, and big cars suck for this. I hated my wife's honda and wanted a small hatch. MINI fits the bill with plenty of funk, BWM build (I've NEVER HAD A PROBLEM NOT ONE), and no rice following.
I'm also here and atlanta and cn now do all my shopping at R_SPEED  So let the losers have thier ******* SUV's and big a$$ duley trucks. No one will get in the way of my beater C10 when I need to haul lumber, and I can squeeze the other cars in places that a bigger vehicle just cannot go in town!

Basically I had no interest in a Grand Am. I wanted something different, I have no need for a SUV. I wanted something different and sporty. The others cars of interest were just beyond my reach finacially. The MCS is affordable, sporty and definelty more interesting, to me, than a Grand Am, Sirus or Taurus. The fact that there is healthy aftermarket and a strong community, also helped seal the deal.

I'm too big [read: fat] for a go-kart, so I had to find something a little bigger.
Seriously, what other car can give you this much fun? I was going to buy a WRX STi (or an EVO), but the "zip" factor wasn't there. Then there is the "funky" factor, as someone mentioned...
By the way, anyone have a Vespa 400 for sale?

I was anti-small cars until the wife convince me to drive a MINI. I was more interested in replacing our two SUVs with a full size wagon and/or sedan. But I definately wanted something more fuel efficient than what we had (2x 2000 Jimmy's)
I didn't get the car off the dealer's lot before I looked at my wife and said "WOW this is fun!!"
Vehicle nr 2 came down between a Jetta wagon and the Subaru Outback. The Outback won on size, comfort and price.

For me, I bought the Mini Cooper S for the following reasons-
*STYLING!
*Fun to drive (although not a rocket like an EVO or STi)
*Resale is decent
*Insurance was less than an EVO or Sti
*Fit my limit of spending ($25,000)
I'm coming from a 2002 Vette (will miss the power and smooth ride, but that’s
about it) & 2001 Olds Intrigue (will miss no car-payment and 4 doors- that’s it)
I guess I've had a change of heart. I've personally changed myself, living
in Europe changed me quick profoundly. Interests,
desires, etc… I realize I don't need a big house, don't need a boat, don't need a
big "bling bling" car/truck with a bunch of wasted space. I don't usually
carry passengers, much less 3 more! I would rather own a smaller number of nice things, good stuff I enjoy, live in a sparsely yet well furnished place in a city center (read-small) and see the world, etc... Would you have asked me this in say 1999, I thought Tahoes were cool, aspired to own a big house, wanted to get married and have kids in the burbs, etc... I somehow think this car is embodying some of my new core values. For me it's all about:

I grew up driving classic Minis, and always wanted a "modernised" version of one. The MINI is as close as I can get to an old Mini with a modern engine and all the safety stuff that was missing from the classics.
Also, Alice handles like the old Minis (i.e. a go-kart) which has always been my highest priority when looking for a car. I'd rather be able to corner without slowing down than be able to out-speed other cars.

I've always liked small cars and, once I was in the market for a new car, I wanted something that would be fun and engaging. I mean, why invest $$$s in something that makes you yawn. I'm also not into raw hp at all.....handling and style are way up on my list as is practicality....a 2-seater doesn't fit my needs. Anyway, I'm a big fan of classic Minis and once I got familiar with the updated version there was no turning back!

When I started looking for a car to purchase it had to meet certain criteria -
My commute is 100 miles a day so it had to get relatively good gas milage
My route is a combination of 2-lane highway, 3-lane freeway, city traffic and twisty mountain roads so I wanted a car that would do well in all modes
I have 3 children and, although not to often, I wanted to be able to carry more than one other person
I wanted a car that had enough power to get out of it's own way
I wanted something with "style"
I've wanted a Mini since I got a ride in a friends in 1970.
The MINI was the only car that met all my needs...

A deep, emotional reaction to the looks of this car attracted me. The feel and overall drivability got me to buy one. Who knows how long this love affair with my car will last, but I shall enjoy every minute of it.

i bought the mini because it has personality, cute and cheap (under $19k). usually those three words don't go together when describing a car. the last cars i bought that fit in this category were a '61 austin mini and a '90 miata.

I bought my MINI becaue it was something cool, great to look at and best of all under 25k. I know that there are a lot of cars out there that are at or less than 25k, but who wants to buy ANOTHER honda civic, or a chevy cavalier. Everyone and their mother has those cars. We are a special breed who likes to motor around and look good while doing it. And since I am the sole owner of this car at 21 years of age, I can look to the future and find myself driving an M3 perhaps.

It was getting close to the time to replace our 93 Accord. I was looking at used MR2s, MX5, and 325is (e-30 body). I wanted something smaller than the Accord, fun to drive, easy to park down town and that might just maybe let me autocross again. I was sipping a coffee at a Starbucks and Yellow MINI drove by then a red one. I had always liked Minis and knew right away what the car was even though I had quit reading car rags. Found the dealer and had my deposit down on a order within two weeks. When I told the wife the other cars I was looking at her comment was, "like you really need another project - you need a new car." God I love that woman.
PS. my work schedule has not let me autocross yet - but I will one day.

I bought a Cooper S because it was in my price range, and I loved the look of the vehicle. Smooth, silky lines, with a touch of aggressiveness, the large headlights just full of energy, and the handling.. oh the handling.
I could have bought a VW GTI, or Honda Civic Hybrid, or a Toyota Prius (all of which were on my list). I didn't need a huge car (after all, it's just me and the girl). And if I need to lug around something (far and few inbetween), I'd rent a Uhaul truck. And it gets looks. I think we get MINIs because they're an extension of our personality, as every person I've met that has one is their own unique delicate flower.

I saw the car when BMW first released the concept pictures. I was perhaps 17, 18 (?) and I begged my mother to buy one when they came out.
I found, however, that it was I who was in the position to purchase a veeehickle when they came out. So I did.
Besides, it's the only car I could have bought. It suits me. Difficult to explain it any better than that.
