I could afford it
it wasn't just another econobox (yawn)
I didn't need or want an SUV
it had unique styling (I was also looking at the VW turbo beetle and GTI)
thought it might be too small, until I sat in one
went for a test drive - WOW! That clinched it - I HAD to have this car!

I waited for her for a year; I didn't lose focus or desire in that long wait. I got her 9 months ago, and she hasn't disappointed me yet. 15K+ miles later, I STILL love driving this car!

>>I bought mine to get laid.

Cheers, mate - hasn't worked for me yet. Still have to "break it in"...

I bought my first one from reccomendation from my dad... the second one because I loved the first so much, but wanted faster and more options. Now its a 180 hp showcar, and I love it!

I want my cake and eat it too.

A car that I can drive for work that feels like a day off.
A car I can pick up pizza and trophies in the same day.
A car that makes me feel like I'm 20 but not embarassed to drive at 45.
A car that gets 28 mpg AND 0 to 60 mph in seven seconds flat.

Yeah.........I'm eating a LOT of cake all the tiime now.

I've watched Mr. Bean all my life and always thought it would be cool to have his car (the yellow Mini w/ the black hood). Then one day I saw this issue of Road and Track with the MINI on it. This car "realed" me in. I thought the looks were great (esp. in person--magazines make the MINI look bigger than it actually is in person). Also, it had many premium options (heated seats, auto AC, nice fit and finish) with a reasonable price. Not to mention it is quick and fun. What more could I ask for--it's like this car was made for me.

The MINI is NOT too small to hold a gun rack!

I've toyed with the idea of getting a new car for a few years (my last one died, an '81 Camaro), but nothing said to me buy, so I've been sharing with my parents (I live at home, even though I'm 24 with a full-time job).

To me, the Mini said buy, the idea of a car with a handling level minimum of a Camaro or Miata (my dad currently has a MIata), with a lot of the luxury features you only find in more expensive cars (my order isn't actually placed yet, due to the waiting list at Long Beach MINI, and I'm not paying a cent over MSRP, including shipping, but I'm ordering almost every factory feature except Nav), just appealed to me incredibly.

To top it off, I love the looks and the test drive, and the discussions on this board only make me want it more. :???:

It reminded me of the best car I ever owned (until now) a 1972 BMW 2002.

It's practical, fun to drive, and out handles everything else on the road under $125,000 and never gets a second look from the law !

Motor On !!

I think SUV's are lame and so are the people who commute in them all by themselves everyday. So I decided to put my money where my mouth is, now I pray they don't kill me. My MINI is practical, economical, sensible, affordable and so much fun to drive.

My simple reason = Very high performance for less than the price of a VW GTI.

Always wanted a MINI...was born in UK and used to have an old "match box" mini that my parents had purchased while living in UK that I played with as a kid...for some reason, I always loved the mini and always wanted one.

Traveled back to the UK in 95 (first time back since 1 year old). Had taken LOTS of pictures. After deciding to purchase the CR/W now known as Lola, took out the photo album of the trip...one picture stood out...red/white 67 or 68 mini I took a picture of (several pictures of) while in the town of my birth.

It was fate/karma.

Why did I buy my MINI? Chicks. Chicks dig the car!

Seriously though, I really enjoyed the styling first and then found out that it had performance and handling to boot. That sealed the deal right there for me. Who ever said that this car has personality is absolutely right. I think that is important. It certainly has more personality than my 1997 honda civic. Smells better too

Did I mention chicks dig the car?

Peace out. Motor on!

>>Ok..why not a Suby WRX Si??

When I was shopping, I was going between the GTI, the WRX (not the STi, too expensive) and the MCS. The WRX was the logical choice (most room, best reliability), but it came in third because:

- boring interior

- turbo lag-by the time the power comes, you're likely going too fast for the circumstances

The Mini was the most fun to drive, and the most fun to look at it (inside and out), and it's nearly the cheapest. What more do you want?

There were two compelling factors.

I wanted to buy the car but didn't have the money together. The MCS had a s-month backlog; it gave me plenty of time to pay off my first car.

I work way too hard at my job. I live 100 miles from the dealer. This will force me to take a day off a couple of times each year to get an oil change and any other service. That will improve my outlook on life.

Why buy a Mini? Where else can you get a navigation system, heated seats, climate control, eight speaker Harmon Kardon stereo, and a gigantic dual pane sunfoof for $24k? Why not a WRX, I'll tell you why -- they are overpriced for the features you get (a wrx with a sunroof starts at 27k). And unless you are a real gearhead, they look like every other small sedan on the road. Besides the fact they are fast, there is not much else to say.
