So I just bought my 2003 MINI Cooper (R50 Indi blue, moonroof, heated leather seats) back in February and I just noticed I'm about to hit the 60,000 mile mark. Since then I haven't really ran into any major issues, knock on wood!, other than wheel bearing issues littlethings like that. I've been tending to do all the maintenance myself which I love. So my question was since I'm getting close to that 60,000 mark I was wondering if there's anything I should look into having done maintance wise to keep my baby running great. Anyone have anything to suggest or run by me? Thanks!

 

ignition, Alta has a good package, or just get the oem. I believe in the manual mini says 60-70k should replace coilpack, plugs, ect. Other than that, just keep changing brakes, tires, fluids.

Motor on!! 60,000 miles is still breaking in and that is low for an '03!!

 

Sodas this may sound stupid but.. What do you mean ignition? Like, the part with the keys? Lol. And I'll sure look into plugs and the coilpack. And as for it only having the 60,000 was shocked to find it like that, and the price was just crazy! Only $12,000!

 

I'd change the oil, put an air filter in, change the spark plugs & wires. You might also want to flush & fill the coolant. That's all I can think of at this moment. If you take care of your MINI it will keep piling on the miles.

 

I could do te plugs and wires myself, correct? And upgrading them might be a smarter idea, right? If so know of any good deals?

 

This is everything they do in Inspection II, this will give you a good idea on what needs to be done. Keep in mind it's for both Auto and Manual.

MINI Inspection II:
Undercarriage
Change oil and oil filter while engine is at operating temperature.
We recommend MINI Synthetic Motor Oil, p/n 07 51 0 143 829
Check transmission for leaks.
Change CVT (automatic) transmission fluid.
Half shafts: Check for leaks at flexible boots.
Visually check fuel tank, lines and connections for leaks.
Check condition, position, and mounting of exhaust system. Examine for leaks.
Check power steering system for leaks. Check p/s fluid level; add fluid if necessary.
Check overall thickness of front and rear disc brake pads (outer pads only) using special tool.
If replacement is necessary:
Examine brake disc surfaces. clean brake pad contact points in calipers. Grease wheel centering hubs.
Check thickness of parking brake linings only when replacing rear pads.
Check steering for absence of play, condition of suspension track rods, front axle joints, steering linkage and joint disc.
Check brake system connections and lines for leaks, damage, and incorrect positioning.
Check parking brake actuation. Adjust if necessary.
Check all tire pressures (including spare). Correct if necessary. Check condition of tires (outer surfaces [left/right]), tread wear and pattern; in case of uneven tread wear readjust wheel alignment if requested.*
Note:If requested rotate all four road wheels as instructed and rebalance.*
Inspect entire body according to terms of rust perforation limited warranty (must be performed at least every two years).

Engine Compartment
Read out diagnostic system.
Check engine cooling system/heater hose connections for leaks. Check coolant level and antifreeze protection level; add coolant if necessary.
Note:Coolant must be replaced every 4 years (time interval begins from vehicle's production date).
Check level of brake fluid in reservoir. Add fluid if required.
Replace brake fluid every 2 years (timing interval begins from vehicle's production date).*
Check windshield washer fluid level and antifreeze protection. Fill up and/or correct if necessary.
Check air conditioner operation.
Replace microfilter.
Note: reduce replacement interval in dusty operating conditions.
Reset Service Interval Indicator.
Replace intake air cleaner element.
Note: Reduce replace interval in dusty operating conditions.
Replace poly V-belt.

Body/Electrical Equipment
Check battery state-of-charge, and charge if required.*
Check lighting system, i.e., headlights, foglights, parking, back-up, license plate, interior, glove box, illuminated make-up mirrors, luggage area lights.
Check instrument panel and dashboard illumination.
Check all warning/indicator lights, check control.
Check turn signals, hazard warning flashers, brake lights, horns, headlight dimmer/flasher switch.
Check windshield and tailgate wipers and washer systems; wiper blades, washer jet positions.
Check condition and function of safety belts.
Check central locking system.
Check operation of all latches.
Check heater/air conditioner blower fan, rear window defogger.
Check rear view mirrors.
Visually examine the SRS airbag units for torn covers, obvious damage or attachment of decals, decorations or accessories.

Final Inspection
Road test with check of brakes, suspension, steering, automatic transmission.
Visually check shock absorbers for leaks.

Two more things to consider:
Check/replace lower control arm bushings.
Replace fuel filter.

 

I'd also change the serpentine belt & change the transmission fluid.

As far as upgrading plugs & wires go. If it makes you feel good do it, but the stock items will work fine.
