R50/53 1st vs 2nd gen question!!

1st vs 2nd gen question!!

Hello peeps, i wanted to get some new side scuttles for my mini coop s 2005, and the only the cool ones were for 2nd get mini's is there a difference between 1st gen and 2nd gen side scuttles? (like they are larger or something?)

Theyre completely different and not interchangeable.

Personally, I wouldn't want those toyish looking 2nd Gen scuttled on my car. Do you have a S or base model Cooper?

Well, what you could do is get the base model Cooper vents and paint them the body color. That'd be a little bit different.

only reason i asked is cause i saw some cool black with blue light side scuttles, but only for 2nd gen :( thanks for all the help tho

since they are chrome did u have any trouble with the paint not sticking?

The grills for the standard Mini only come in plain black plastic. Only the S grills are chrome with a red letter S. I've seen people paint the chrome ones as well, but they need to be properly prepped. Likely the easiest way is to give them a gentle sand blasting to evenly and finely roughen the surface. Or, maybe you could strip the chrome off. Forget about sanding it off, though. I actually peeled the chrome off a second set of door handles I bought and the plastic underneath then needed only a very light sanding to get them ready for paint. Worked perfectly but took about 3 hours of work in the garage. And, of course, it requires major disassembly of the doors.
