To those of you with a MCS: What means do we have to access the battery and change it if it goes dead with the rear hatch lock set? I'm thinking use the key to gain access via the driver's door, enter trunk by lowering rear seat backs, etc. any other means?

But aren't the locks power locks? They sure don't feel mechanical in any way.

Somewhere there's a big long thread on this.

There should be an inside trunk release. Look in the manual. You will have to enter the car the way you were thinking though.

There's a positive contact under the bonnet, next to the airbox. Connect your friend's car there and you can open the boot.

Also, just yesterday I did something really stooopid. I disconnected the battery and closed the hatch... Noone around, so I stuck my hand behind a rear seat, between the boot cover and the seat, and released the seat lock to drop the seat down. Then I lowered the second seat, dumped everything out of the back into the interior of the car, lifted the flap and connected the battery.

Whew! There's no emergency release pull on '02.

Of course you can also charge the battery using that same main 12 volt buss contact next to the air filter box.

If your car is a 10/02 or later build, you will have an emergency release under the rear seat. Just pull up on the front of the rear seat to pop it up and you will see a pull ring underneath in the center.
