R50/53 Most accurate MINI Cooper S diecast?
I don't have a digital camera to show you the pics, but I just ordered (and received) a 1/18 scale CR/W JCW MCS, with aero kit and rally lamps, from my local MINI dealer last week. It was $65, and I think it's perfect. It's accurate down to the tiniest detail, including JCW badges on the front and rear (and I'd need a magnifying glass to know for sure, but it looks like the JCW logo adorns the exhaust tips, as well.
>>Anyone know? I haven't been impressed with the selection of S models so far...at least that I've seen.

The Maisto 1:18 model is beautifully crafted and down to minute details. The doors and hood open to reveal authentic looking engine compartment and car interior. I'd highly recommend it. My niece gave me a Pure Silver model, which matches my MC (not MCS though). I also have a radio operated 1:72 model by another manufacturer, but it is not as detailed. My guess is that the Maisto costs about $40. Do a Google search for a dealer near you.

I saw the dealer's model, and I believe it is a Maisto. You can get it for less elsewhere.

The models at your dealer are actually made by Kyosho. They are highly detailed, including black felt-lined hatch compartment and interior floors. The seats are rubberized a bit to feel more realistic rather than the hard plastic used in the less expensive models like Maisto. Kyosho models also have driver and passenger side glass too, whereas the Maisto has no glass and just looks like the windows are lowered. Maisto versions are about half the price though, so keep that in mind...
Here's a link to a place that has the Maisto versions (and maybe the Kyosho too):

The 1/18 Maisto (Thailand) models are OK for the money ($10 to $20) but if you want the absolute best 1/18 MINI diecast models, you have to spend $65-$75 and get a model made by either Kyosho (Japan) or AutoArt (Germany).
The 1/18 MINI Cooper, MCS and JCW MCS sold in MINI dealers are made by either Kyosho or AutoArt. Those are most definetely not Maistos!!
I have a 1/18 Bburago (Italy) CR/W Cooper and a 1/18 AutoArt DS/B Cooper S complete with working Moonroof, carpeted floors, leather seats, plumbed and photo etched engine parts, etc.
High end die-cast models have extremely detailed undercarriages, plumbed and wired engines and NO STICKERS, but photo etched parts.
I will post some pics of my 1/18MCS DS/B shortly.

>>That site had lots of coopers, but i didn't see any S models in red.
If you want an 1/18 scale CR/W Cooper S you have to get the limited edition JCW MCS diecast model that retails for $65 at your nearest MINI dealer. This model has bonnet white stripes and I believe it has the Aero "kit" and rally lights.
The "regular" Cooper S 1/18 model is currently being offered only in Dark Silver/Black and Electric Blue/White colors. You can get a better color selection in 1/18 regular Coopers.

The Maisto 1/18 die cast MINIs can be bought for $10-$20 at Sam's Club, Costco or BJ's Wholesale. Maistos are cheap and reasonably detailed for the money, but they are not at the same level of detail and craftsmanship like the Kyoshos or AutoArt replicas. That explains the price difference between the two.

die casts
there are stores in ohio, Marcs, that sell bigger die casts MINIS for 1.58 or something..the ones i saw were base coopers.. they are pretty big.
Big lots has a union jack draped cooper, a really big one for i think 12.99
Marcs also has i think a pack of six classic minis for 2.99

cooperhiker, if your from ohio, then your probably fmilliar with Hobbytown USA, correct?
go check it out, they have a fine selection of diecast coopers.
i got my autoart EB (looks more teal than EB) from ebay for $55 shipped.
interesting side note, it came from hong kong and came wrapped in what appeared to be a leaf and tied with brown twine!!!

If you want an exact match you'd better be ready to paint. With so many variations in existence now, it's harder than ever to find exactly what you want. I got lucky w/ my IB/W Cooper because early on I found a 1:18, 1:28, and a 1/56 all in IB/W. I have 'em lined up on my desk.
Ya, i looked at the AutoArt ones, but nothing is in Hyper Blue with a Hyper Blue roof. The only thing I found were cheapies on the web that looked pretty shoddy. I guess i'll have to wait and see if AutoArt or Kyosho make a Hyper Blue one..
last I looked Auto Art only had a CR/W, EB/W, and DS/W S's at 1/18th scale I think it is. Quite detailed, even down to the red seat belt release buttons. My CR/W AA one gets lots of

I have been collecting Mini models since I got my first Mini ('60 Morris 850) in 1969! I now have a 2002 MCS DS/W with sun roof. By far the best MCS model of the MCS I have found is the ixo (www.ixomodels.com) MCS 2002 DS/W sunroof 1:43. I got it off the Internet and it was about $40. Check it out!

Back to the original question, I got a 1/43 minichamps model from Europromo (http://store.yahoo.com/europromo-store/index.html ) that looks to be wonderfully detailed. At that scale it's hard to tell, of course, but squinting through the windows, it looks like everything is there, right down to the mirror controls, cupholders, and ashtray! At $40 or so it cost a lot more than I ever thought I would pay for this scale, but it's the only VR/B model (and only the second VR/anything) I've seen.
Any opinions as to which of the big 3 affordable models -- Johnny Lightning, Matchbox, or Hot Wheels -- offer the most accurate 1/64 scale reproductions?
P.S. Last week one of my co-workers surprised me with a carama (sp?) model of a classic mini pulling a big ol' trailer!
Thanks, Vicky!
