There's been some tests with Getrag I do believe with a AWD MINI. Just can't remember all the facts on it. Maybe someone else can shed some light on it all.
Cheers,

Kalbone,

The AWD drive system from Getrag has been getting more press lately. Will MINI pick it up and have it as an option? Dunno. Only time will tell.

That would be awesome. AWD is all we needed, better traction, better handling, better dynamics...... It just keeps getting better with Mini

How about an AWD with the JCW package? That would be a serious Mini. I'd have one on order a first chance.

I don't want to sound funny since I would be totally and only against the awd package on Mini. To me this would completely destroy what Mini is all about, the fwd go-kart in miniscule package. It would not follow the history and fundamentals of Mini concepts. Also the awd layout would reduce the rear seating considerably, not to mention the added weight as well. This will result in higher prices on sticker price which goes against the mini's philosophy too. The awd will actually change the Mini's driving characteristic too drastically. Unless the Mini will have different model to offer more line-up.

the AWD added some 200 lbs...however...even with the added weight it took a HALF a second off the not to 60...THAT IS HUGE!!!

For those that think a AWD MINI is a bad thing think about this:

AWD + longer wheel base = A WRC legal Rally MINI .

Cheers,
Jack

For regular use AWD is pretty much useless. But hey, it would be a nice option for those who want it.

Huh? Please explain how the AWD systems Getrag has worked on for the MINI is useless for regular use. They've already shown control and performance increases for wet and icy conditions. There's not many places in the world where it doesn't get icy and fewer places yet that don't get wet. How is that worthless?

Maybe I should have said not necessary. It may be a little convienent at times in the snow/ice but other then that its just a waste. I don't disagree about the performance gains but like I said, for normal everyday use how much performance do you need. The way my Mini handles puts me way way into illegal situations if I push it so why would you "need" more?

If its a want thing then go for it.

LOL, you mean like dial out a bit of understeer? THE HORROR!!!

I'm sure it will be an option so those with thin wallets can enjoy their wheelspin.

Anyone that argues that AWD is not useful except in snow/rain conditions simply has no experience with AWD. ESPECIALLY when you're contrasting to Wrong Wheel Drive as opposed to RWD.

The RWD vs. AWD argument is at least a valid and entertaining one. FWD vs. AWD? Now that's just silly.

I live in Minnesota and used to have an AWD astro van and a 4wd pickup. I comes in handy about 6 time each winter. For the initial cost and less gas mileage its not worth it.

Its just my opinion. Do what you want.
