I know this has probably been discussed before -- but I'm new to the site. What are your opinions on the Pepper White VS the Velvet Red (both w/Black Tops). Please share your thoughts on these combinations...

I love them both and that is a very hard decision....
It is hard to say which of those combos I like better because those colors are so different to me.....the Velvet Red is really warm looking and the Pepper White is a really mellow, nice color.

I suppose if someone said you can have one of these two cars and I HAD to choose between them I would have to pick the Velvet Red......I have always loved that color.....I was torn between the Pure Silver, Indie Blue and Velvet Red when I was ordering but I did not get the Velvet Red because I had never seen it in person. When I saw it in person I totally loved it!

Welcome to the site!

Cheers!

hate to disagree with l mini because she drives the only color for a cooper pure silver with a black roof oh yea it is sweet. I have seen the velvet red and the pepper white. Hated the velvet red. the pepper white was OK but not my favorite. A cooper is incredible in pure silver and black. A cooper S now thats got to be electric blue and white just my opinion but then thats what you asked for

The last time I went by my local dealership, they had a pepper white/black roof MC with the aero kit installed on the showroom floor. The pepper white/black roof/black grill combo looked incredible! If I wasn't getting the MCS, I would get this color combo in a second. Or, maybe Mini will offer the pepper white on the MCS by the time I order my car in December (I can dream, can't I).

Boy choosing a color is very difficult! I know. Welcome to the group BTW.
As I was getting into my car last weekend a velvet red mini zoomed around the corner. It looked mean( in a good way, like the hero facing his enemy!)
The Color invoked in me a driver who enjoy's richness in things, a dirver who is opulent. It's like a feast or full bodied red wine, quite delicious! While a pepper white, ( I have never seen one in person), suggests to me a more austere beauty, a crispness like a chardonnay, a driver who is put together and down to buisness, in a friendly mini sorta way.

After downloading the new configurator..... I'm taking requests on build ups....
If you would like a MINI made up with your accessories let me know... I'd be glad to do some. To a point. I'll do this as long as I can keep up.
Happy Motoring,
SW

Sorry... no Silk Green or Velvet Red. Those color choices are not available on the software.

I can however create Gold, Indi Blue on an "S", roof flags (though you can't see them too well), and various other cool things.

I've ordered the Pepper White with a black roof and I am so psyched! I wanted a color combo that was rarer than some of the others, and since I've been driving a maroon hatchback around for years and years, the velvet red didn't really thrill me.

P.S. Every time I visit this site I get excited about my car all over again! Thanks, guys!

We were faced with the same color choices: It was going to be either Velvet Red/White roof or Pepper White/Black Roof.

The day we went to put our order, the dealer had 2 demos in the same exact color choices that we had pretty much decided on as "Final Candidates". Even when having both cars parked side to side, it was a difficult decision but were glad to have had the opportunity to see tjhem both and make a good choice in the end.

Velvet Red is a metallic paint finish and MINI charges $400 extra for it while Pepper White is a solid finish at no additional charge. Velvet Red is a very nice color, but we were kinda turned off by the darker-than-usual shade. When it is clean and waxed it looks stunning, but dirt and dust shows up a lot. Also under certain light conditions the car tends to look brownish. Also Velvet Red seems to contrast better with a Black Roof. It is still nice with the white roof but somehow the contrast doesn't seem to work very well all the time.(Whereas a Jet/Cosmos black Coopers with contrasting white Roof look much nicer, IMO).

For Velvet Red to look at its best, you need to get to order the chrome bumper inserts ($120) which we didn't want to begin with (We feel the Cooper has enough Chrome as-is). Nice color, but in all honestly we were expecting better. I prefer Silk Green over it but my wife has gotten tired of green cars after 5 years of having one.

Not many people seem to have ordered Velvet Red Coopers. If you have or are thinking about doing it, you might be driving or getting a future collectible. make it even more rarer with a black cloth interior and matching Velvet Red roof.

I think Silk Green outsold Velvet Red during the first year, yet Silk Green got the ax for '03. I don't think Velvet Red will survive past the 2003 model year. I would love to see an improved replacement color, like a rich burgundy or something like that.

On the other hand, we kept coming back to Pepper White. Ironically after owning 2 white Acuras in the past I had grown also sick of white cars. My wife never liked white cars to begin with. But when we saw the Pepper White Cooper demo we both were hooked! Pepper White is a very rich and deep cream looking color. It looks vintage and it is not your typical "Frosty White" found on most other cars today. It looks stunning with the black roof and mirrors. Very nice color, understated (You could say it is the anti-thesis of "Billboard" MINI colors such as Red, Yellow, Electric Blue) and enhances the soft and classy lines of the MINI. Against the chromed exterior bits it enhances a lot and the best part is that whether you pick the chrome bumper inserts or not, it will still look tops.

Also given that Pepper White was a no charge color option, we soon abandoned the idea of paying $400 for the Velvet Metallic finish. We felt that the $400 for the paint could be better spent in another cool MINI option: The Multifunction Steering Wheel ($350).

After nearly 20 days since we took delivery, we are still very happy with our Pepper White Cooper. Great color for warm climates, surpinsingly it hides dust/dirt rather well and it is a head turner everywhere we go. Most Coopers here in Miami are either Pure Silver, Chili Red, Indy Blue, Liquid Yellow, Black or BRG, but almost none in Pepper White or Velvet Red to be found at all.

2 weeks ago I went to the Lauderdale MINI Meet #2 and mine was the only Pepper White Cooper among 50 MINIs in attendance. The only color missing from the event was, you guessed it, Velvet Red.

If you want to break away from the pack, then either Velvet Red, Pepper White or Silk Green will ensure a bit more uniqueness for your MINI!

I saw the Velvet Red/white roof combo in person for the first time at the dealership this past weekend and that's the combo I am getting. With white wheels too and black Kaleido seats. And white bonnet stripes. If it turns out to be a rare collectible so much the better, but I am getting it purely because I think it looks the best.

As with so many others here my final decision came down to Pepper White versus Velvet Red. (I love the Silk Green too, but we had a Taurus for a few years in an eerily similar color and the Silk Green MINI through no fault of its own evokes the old Taurus in my mind.) I didn't care much about Pepper White until I saw a car in person and it made me seriously reconsider Velvet Red. I've seen a Pepper White/black roof/black grille insert treatment and that's really a stunning-looking car. The "white" that is Pepper White isn't really a straight-ahead white at all. It is richer and warmer looking. My wife and I joked that a more descriptive name for Pepper White should be "Devon Double Cream," because it has that rich, ALMOST yellowy tinge to it... it's great.

But in the end I dig the Velvet Red most. There is a heritage play to it; it evokes the deep red/burgundy color that a lot of MGs and MINIs and Triumph open-top cars used to come in, back in the day. It reminds me of England -- it's close to the color used on the London Underground's Metropolitan Line. It's rich and iridescent -- I like the fact that when the sun and clouds play across it, it seems to turn from reddish to brownish to a sort of roan. I think it's dignified (and the bonnet stripes will add a playful streak to that dignity). The chrome on the car plays well against it. And I think it will age well and not go flat over time like some of the brighter colors may.

Good luck choosing!

I completely loved the Velvet Red, but with the White top. Then, at a local dealer, I saw the Pepper White/Black top.. and Loved it! It really looks great. If I were going with a black top, I would go with the pepper white. I bought a Silk Green, that was available at my dealership, and at the time they had a velvet red/white top also, and the decision nearly drove me nuts! I had 2 other cars that were similar to the velvet red, and the silk green really looked much better in person than it did in pictures. So, I am happy with what I got. If I were ordering my car, I most likely would have gotten the Pepper White. ... oooh.. color choice can be such a hard decision!

It's, of course purely subjective. SEE THEM BOTH, LIVE, AND DECIDE. My wife has velvet red with black top, chrome trim, rally lights etc.--she picked the combination because it's so different. (We both like the silver, but thought it would become very common as time passed.) We had not seen a velvet/black live but the MINI associate said she had seen that combo at the Detroit auto show and loved it so we went for it. It is, I think, gorgeous.
As an aside, my wife's been away on business for a few weeks and I haven't been sleeping well. I had this terrible nightmare last night that someone had stolen her MINI--one of those nightmares that seem so real. In fact I got up in the middle of the night and went to the garage to make sure it was still there!

PLEASE YOURSELF -- IT'S LIKE ASKING IF YOU LIKE CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA BEST.

SFiveTen, Where did you get that configurator? I'd like to play around with a lot of options and don't wish to trouble you with a large number of configuation requests! If you could let us know, thanks!

PepperWhiteBlack. High contrasting colors really make it stand out. I've seen that combo in person and it really draws your eyes to the car. Pretty sweet

Hey Sfiveten,
If it's not too much to ask, how about a pepperwhite/black roof with the aero kit? When I read other people's comments about this combo, it sounded too good to be true.

Here ya go..... Pepper White/ Black with Aero

PS... for some reason in the config tool.... if you add an Aero kit to the Cooper it changes the front plate to MINI ONE. Sorry I couldn't find a way around it.
