I did a search, and didn't find anything... So, very curious to see what kind of music people drive to (particular favorite albums/tracks) in their Mini's?

How about top three 3CD's/tracks and favorite genre?

My top three CD's/mixes are-
Dave Clarke- World Service (hard techno/electro)- driving 4 fun
Kevin Saunderson- In Deepspace (house)- for trips
Josh Schnable (friend)- SX03 (minimal, chillout)- for traffic

every once in a while i get the mood for korn, they make some good driving tunes too.

 

Here's a thread from September. There have been other, much longer ones, every few months, but I didn't find them in a search, either.

I'm currently listening a lot to two old favorites, Elastica, and Ned's Atomic Dustbin's "God Fodder" - one of my favorite albums ever.

The Chemical Brothers' "Exit Planet Dust" is probably my overall favorite driving music.

Actually, this is a recurrent thread so I do suggest you do a more complete search. But it is recurrent because it is such a good topic.

For me a key thing was to have the right song to play first while driving her home after taking delivery. My choice was a nod to the "fab" 60s the car reminds me of. I picked "Stroll On", a live cut from the commercially unsuccessful but seminal band, the Yardbirds. They rotated through three guitarists: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page. Stroll on has a great lead by Jeff Beck.

Now? Man, so much works: Wilco and other alternative country including a regional band, Brother Trucker. Folk that defies the trite stereotype: Greg Brown (a local too), Dar Williams etc. Then there's all the great music eminating out of the Nation of Tejas: Joe Ely and the Lubback bunch etc.

Music fits the Mini whether my stuff, rap, techno, or whatever. Play what you want and drive. That's a great combo (for the other side of the brain try NPR once in awhile too.)

 

My music choices seem to be weather or mood related more than anything else. Currently playing: new Radiohead, new Strokes, Postal Service, Travis, Coldplay.

My favorite genre while driving would probably be progressive metal. Something hard and heavy but more intricate and layered than just straight metal. (we need a little smiley thingy that looks like a headbanger!)

Time for the old fart to check in. I will be playing some Electric Light Orchestra, Cheap Trick and the Beatles on the trip home from the dealership. Then I will break out the Cult and Mettalica CDs.

 

I'm stuck in the XM 80-83 range frequently. Tho I totally agree with the comments about NPR, I feed the brain in the mornings with "Morning Edition" :smile: BBC World Service on long drives too...

I need to persist more on my searches, too much "multitasking"

Well we all listen to a lot of things but what stands out? The Beatles! Bob Marley! Hmm, then there's a whole slew of 30's jazz music and for some reason if it's raining, the Everything But the Girl (Temperemental) album goes well with the weather. :smile:

Haven't heard of the other two but I did get the new Strike Anywhere a few weeks ago. I like Change is a Sound better but Exit English is still is a great cd.

I have been listening to Intro5pect a lot, and the new Anti-Flag cd, which is really good.

I haven't been listening as loud as I did before I got my pulley/intake though.

Redleg13, I'm with you on that one. It's unexpected, but on the right day with the sunroof open and windows down a little classical music is amazing. My personal favorite would be Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmuzik.

 

Here's a question:

I'm picking up my MCS in a couple of weeks, and I'm wondering what the first disc in the player should be. Since I have to drive it back to Tallahassee from Jacksonville, I'm thinking that I might listen to The Who's 1973 rock opera masterpiece Quadrophenia in its entirety. I can kick it Anglo, and relive my 9th grade Who obsession while enacting my adolescent fantasy. Then again, part of me wants to stay true to my roots and throw in The Boss's Born to Run.

So, what was the first disc you played in your MINI when you picked it up, and why?

"Open All Night" from that album is one of the best car songs - GREAT driving music:

I definitely agree; the hard-core Springsteen conesseurs know that Nebraska is his best album!

And Human Touch/Lucky Town are the worst.

My top five? Don't twist my arm!

I'm a hard rocker with quite a bit of proggie in the mix, so I like quite a bit.

I'll agree with frye that prog metal is great drivin' material. For me, some Rush, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Enchant, edgy newer stuff like Fate's Warning, Evanescence and Static-X, classic prog from Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes, Tull, etc. It's all good.

I am hardly ever without my collection of ax masters like Vai, Satriani, Stu Hamm, The Hellecasters and many others. Music guaranteed to get you at least 25mph over the speed limit.

You are liable to hear anything from Mozart to Motorhead coming out of my car. Carrying 10+ gigs worth of mp3s at any given moment pretty much makes it inevitable!

I wish I could find my headbanger smiley gif. It's be perfect.

*When* I pick up my car, I would likely listen to Queen's "I'm In Love With My Car" to set the tone!! Usually, it's gonna be Santana and World Music (Baba Maal, Nusfrat Ali Khan, Peter Gabriel etc). If my 4-year old is in the car it HAS to be his daily commute music of Kate Bush or Beethoven's Ode To Joy.
