Help me name my MINI...

Hello folks, I hope this isn't too cheesy. But I need some help naming my new MINI and I thought we could have a little fun with naming mine.

A little history: I've wanted a MINI for about 7 years now and I couldn't justify a new vehicle with mine in working order. My Jimmy recently died which meant, I could finally have my dream car. Nope, no Porsche, Ferrari, or Lamborghini for me people. My dream car was/is a MINI. So with the passing of my Jimmy, I finally got to buy one. However, being the cautious person that I am, I decided to by a used one first to be sure I liked it and that it would fit my lifestyle. I bought my MCS05 sight unseen off of eBay by a dealership in Chicago almost 2 weeks ago. I pulled the carfax and paid a mechanic to go look at it (as we're stationed in South Dakota) and all was well. Now that I physically have my MINI, it looks to have been taken care of really well by the previous owner - no funky smells, rips, holes, nicks, dings, etc. It's in almost pristine condition.

About the MINI: He/She is a dark silver metallic color with black bonnet stripes and a black hat. Has liquid gold eyes, is quiet as a mouse, and is almost as fast as Superman. He/She loves to jam to the radio (mainly jazz - Michael Buble', Diana Krall, & Chris Botti to name a few) while having his/her leather warmed by the owner(s). Seems to be happy and content most of the time as well as an old-school elizabethan romantic.

I've read here on NAM that if I really listen to the car, it'll let me know what name it likes. I'm keeping my ears open but in the meantime, suggestions would be helpful. I can't wait to hear what you all come up with!

If I pick a name that one of you have suggested - I'll mail you a batch of my famous homemade "Cowboy Cookies"

Do you want a name like "Max"? Or something like "Silver Bullet"?

So where in S. Dakota? (My mother grew up just North of Sioux Falls, in Moody County.) How about Gatsby?, a tribute to the Jazz Age & F. Scott Fitzgerald who hailed from the Twin Cities...

iGolin - Silver Bullet sounds cool...makes me think of that Angelina Joile movie "Wanted" 80) There really isn't a category that I fall into with names. My likes are so vast that no name could be too silly/stupid/dry/quirky or crazy sounding - really. I'm completely open.

bigsoup52 - Ooooo "Gatsby", I like! In addition to loving Jazz, I'm an English Literature major - so I immediately thought of the Great Gatsby. Gatsby is a good one! I'm currently stationed in Rapid City, SD. I've been here all of 3 1/2 months. It's beautiful here, but the cold is rough on my southern blood (originally from South Carolina) and from what I hear, winter isn't even here yet - yikes. I guess my MINI will be garage kept for most of the winter being as I can't drive in snow

Since it took 7 years to get, instead of Grasshopper, how about "Cicada"?

Born and raised in SD. Left 40 years ago--for warmer winters. Since you are close-- how about "Crazy Horse" after the monument in the Black Hills. Remember there are only two seasons in SD--9 months of winter and 3 months of crummy sledding. PS--congrats on your MCS--we love ours.

skyhawk- I have never seen so many grasshoppers until I moved here! Cricket was my grandfather's nickname for me growing up - I haven't been called that since his passing. Hmmmm - you might be onto something with that one...you might have to share that name with me...

minicooperwill - That is too funny. I used to play with those things (their sheded skin) as a kid. The name sounds cool too!

buzzsaw - Thank you for the congrats. I think my husband secretly likes the MINI just as much as I do (he's a vette guy). You were smart moving from SD. Not sure I'd want to live/retire here either. Although it's beautiful here, it's just too cold for me. Crazy Horse is a cute name for the MINI.

I'm loving the names - keep them coming.

I am also a new MINI owner, and I don't have a name for mine. Of course, when I bought mine, I didn't know I had to name it/he/she.

I'm looking for a little feedback.

It's a Chilli Red 06 MCS, white top, white mirrors, white bonnet stripes. Reminds me of my Little Red Wagon when I was a kid. You know, the ones from Radio Flyer. Little red wagon is not a MINI name, but looking at the Radio Flyer initials, I came up with RuFus. Alway liked the name Rufus, just not sure if it fits to a MINI.

Comments?

Pete

I like Rufus! Especially since "Ru" (rouge) means "red" in french and your baby is RED!

MiniCarolinaGirl,
How about your screen name...Carolina? or Caroline?

Your name, and saying you are a southern girl not sure about the S.D. cold...it made me think of James Taylor singing "Carolina In My Mind"

How about naming it "Jimmy" in memory of?

Wow you guys are so creative!

TRPete - I agree with ItWorks. I like RuFus too. When you said your MINI is red, I immediately thought of Chili, Cayenne, and Paprika. I also thought of Elektra for the red patent leather suit that Jennifer Garner wears in the movie "Daredevil". Oh and Congrats on your new MINI.

ItWorks - I like Cricket a lot too!

02ElectricBlueS - I like Caroline/Carolina too - but it doesn't flow off the tongue well.

minicooperwill - I'm not sure about naming it Jimmy but JIMINI is cute!

I'm still undecided on a name. I have found myself referring to it as a girl. Like yesterday my hubby wanted to drive it to work and I told him; "be careful with her". I think my MINI is giving me subtle hints that she's a girl.

I like Cricket.

Maybe a shortened version of Carolina...Lina?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lina

Lina (لينا) is also a female name used in Arabic. Its main meaning is 'tender' or 'tenderness'. It also refers to a small young palm tree in Arabic.
The name Lina also has roots in China, France and Greece. In China, it means 'pretty' and 'elegant'.
I thought that was appropriate, since SC is the Palmetto state.

It's been my experience that the gender, as well as the name, will come in time. The car has already let you know it's a she, so keep listening to the little voices in your head, and she'll let you know her name.
I've always liked those little voices, keeps me from getting lonely...
Or maybe it's the meds....

My voices keep me from getting in trouble.

LadyGodiva - love your name, not to mention chocolate. And shortening Carolina is a good idea. Lina is not bad...hmmm not bad at all.

I had a friend tell me I should name it Edward after the Twilight books. Since he wears a lot of grey and silver - his car is silver and my car is silver. Yeah...I know, I know...I'm "that goober" who likes that Twilight stuff. But since my car has declared herself a girl, Edward is out. And I think the girl names from the books are a bit to obvious...hmmm still thinking on this one.

If it is a girl....

how about.... Stella!

Stella is the Latin and Italian word for star.
Stella is the female version of the male Greek name Stelios which probably originates from the Greek "stylos", or "styli", or "style".

(info from Wikipedia)

Sounds like a good name to me!

I somehow missed this part. Cookies!?!?!? Woo hoo, now I'll try harder (although I really am liking Stella with both the "star" and "style" references).

minicooperwill - ha! yep cookies to the winner - They are my hubby's favorite cookies! I don't know about Stella though - makes me think of "How Stella got her Groove Back", (aweful!) I think I like Cicada better. Since you're trying harder now, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

bigsoup52 - I don't know which I like better Gatsby or Zelda - both very good. Thanks for the link - I knew a lot about F. Scott Fitzgerald but not so much about his wife, very interesting. I think I like her maiden name "Sayre". Not sure how you would pronounce that, (Sa eere, Sa ir, S air...??) but the written script looks cool.

If a girl, I would go with Artemis, the Greek goddess of the moon who is associated with silver.

The Roman version is Diana so you could use "Di" as a nickname.

I have some idea about my MINI but I'm looking for a name myself...I think I'll need to drive him around a bit first!
