Didn't like Stella?

Ok, if you didn't like Stella, how about a name that gets to what many on this forum see to see as reliability issues? Ready???

Wilma

as in "Will ma car start?" (Will my car start?)

Here's a thought. Since you are a tranplanted South Carolinian (I think that was it is ), and presumably wish to head back home at some time, with the MINI, how about "Snowbird".

We have a lot of those here in Jersey - folks who head south to the Carolinas or Fla during the winter. Known as snowbirds.

BTW - when I was in the military, I spent 4 years down in Charleston, SC. Man, I love that city, what a great place to live, the folks were friendly, even to a couple of Yankees like my wife and I.

It's where I'd like to retire, although I'm not sure about my wife.

Pete

Since you didn't like Stella, you probably won't like Ella (but I'll mention it just in case, since there are cookies on the line).

But I was thinking: small car, South Dakota, Little House on the Prairie... Half Pint!!!

Her official name of course would be Laura.

This is such a great thread! I'm still thinking of a cookie-worthy name. Have had my R50 for 18 months, and never considered naming him? until I read through this thread. With the DDM CAI and Megan exhaust, he really roars.
So, since the car is German, and I am half German, I'm going with Brullen. That's German for "roar". The "u" is supposed to have the umlauts over it (the two dots). I can't figure out how to do that on my new Mac.
Thanks for inspiring me.

Brüllen.

You get the umlaut with option-U, then a U to go under it. (I guessed that, you get diacritical marks with the option key and usually on the character you might guess.)

minicooperwill - lmbo, you are killing me. No, no Wilma or Laura for me I actually like Ella while my hubby likes Stella.

TRPete - not sure about snowbird, although the hubby likes that one. Yeah, the folks in Charleston (my birth place) are wonderful, very friendly. I love it there too. I'd love to retire on the beach there. I like to hear that people have a good experience while visiting my home state.

Fritzoc - It's definitely a lighthearted thread, huh? Glad you like it. Brullen is a great name! I hadn't thought of naming my MINI either until I read through several threads here on NAM and realized that a lot of people have cool names for their MINI's so I thought, okay I'll name mine too. Two names I especially love that I ran across on NAM are (Lady Godiva-chocolate colored and Butters-yellow colored) - too cute! Congrats on your MINI and the new name.

Another idea which would combine the mythological name idea with MINI:

Minerva (or I suppose you could misspell it MINIrva).

After I posted that, I was thinking "Minerva sounds familiar for some reason." Well, it must be because of Mininerva (or Minerva) who I just recently invited to come over to the Sparkling Silver Owners' Club. Its still (obviously) a great name, and I'm sure we have many multiples on names, so if you like it, use it!

Okay, I also asked my Facebook friends for some suggestions on naming my MINI (but they don't get the cookie deal) and here is what they came up with - all of which refer to the MINI's appearance and color. Some of them are not too shabby.
Silver Haven
Grayson
Cinder
Silver Bullet
Capella (one of the brightest stars in our night sky)
Silver Viper
Countach (coon tash) - Italian exclamation for something beautiful, striking, and dead sexy....I LIKE! Maybe Silver Countach? or MINI Countach? My hubby thinks it sound too close to something else...

LadyGodiva - your welcome

minicooperwill - You would think I'd like mythology being an english major - but I don't really for some unknown reason. I've actually been throwing around the original idea you had with the Star/Stella reference you made earlier...maybe Silver Star?? I had to look up the meaning of Capella also and found that it's the sixth brightest star in the night sky and the third brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere...so maybe Silver Capella??

I can't tell you guys how much fun I'm having, thanks so much and keep the ideas coming.

After I posted the last thread, a friend of mine said something I thought was funny. I had to share it with you guys. "Your MINI is cute but I think it would fit in the back of my F250,ha ha...you should name it SHORT STUFF or LITTLE BUTTER BEAN..." Butter Bean is cute! Maybe I should think of southern references to small/little things...

Capella is my new favorite.

There's a gal in our club (from SC) and her CR MINI is named Butterbean.

Going on the silver theme...

I looked up the Spanish word for silver: plata (yuck)

But the Dutch word is kinda cool: zilver

French: argent (meh)
Italian: argento (meh again)

I found this on the wiki page for the Lamborghini Countach:

The word countach (pronounced [kunˈtɑʃ] ( listen)) is an exclamation of astonishment in the local Piedmontese language — generally used by men on seeing an extremely beautiful woman.[1] The term is often considered the equivalent of an excited obscenity in English. It can also be considered the verbal equivalent of a wolf-whistle.[citation needed]

Russian - серебро

Portuguese - prata

How about Poe for Edgar Allen Poe. or Edgar. I heard he wrote The Raven on Isle of Palm (or was it Sullivan's), just outside of Charleston?
I named my 06 BRG MCS George, as in the Bugs Bunny cartoon, I will love him and squeeze him and call him George. Just came to me one day sitting in traffic.

LadyGodiva - I have to say, Butterbean is really cute.

Riss Racing - 999 definitely says silver but is too close to another number, if you catch my drift. Min Pin is really cute though!

MiniCooperWill - nope, I still like your Stella/Star reference.

BooBoo - your screen name is what I call my nephew. And it's funny that you mentioned the Bugs Bunny cartoon because that is what I twittered the day I bought my MINI; "I just bought my first MINI! - I haven't met him yet but 'I will love him and squeeze him and call him George'" - lol. I was thinking of calling my MINICooperS Bugs but the hubby thought too many people would think of the VW Bug - so out the window that idea went.

Soooo - these last few threads have really gotten me to analyze the southern things that I say. Then I got to thinking about all the nicknames I call my daughter because when we're out and about and I call her sugar bean, people always ask, "where are you from?" So here are a few things that I call my little girl - Jellybean, Sugar Bean (I like this one a lot), Sugar Bear, Pookie, Peanut, Silly Nilly. And here are a few things that I say (embarrassingly enough):
a'fixin' - about to
round to it - I'll get to it
Near 'bout - close
an' nem - as in mamma an'nem (well, I don't say this one but my whole family does)
foe er - as in the number 4 (my hubby teases me about this one)

If we're going off of nicknames, these are what we call our dogs:

Cooper is Super Cooper, Cooper Dooper, Pooper, Poopaloop, Coopaloop, and Coopenondaloopen.

Daisy is Crazy, Crazy Daisy, Craze Daze, Miss Thing, Princess, Lil B*tch.

Here they are (Daisy on left, Cooper on right, both in need of a haircut):

BooBoo is my cat's name, actually BooBoo Kitty. BooBooLicious is his nickname after the bubblegum I had as a child.
When I lived in FLA I always liked the word Fetch, as in Fetch me a beer _____.

minicooperwill - ROFLMBO! - what cute doggies you have and their names are just as cute! My kitty's name is Indy, which is short for Indiana Jones (I love the Indiana Jones movies). And my Dalmation is Dempsy as in Dempsy the Boxer (hubby named).

BooBoo - BooBooLicious makes me think of Fergie from the Black Eye Peas for some reason...hmmm - not sure why.

Okay - I just had a thought and had to go back and read through this thread to be sure no one said this name already....Minnie as in Mickey and Minnie Mouse. A play on words: MINI - Minnie. It's cute, right?...but someone's probably already thought of this...

Since we had Cooper already, we briefly thought of naming the puppy Minnie, but Daisy just fit better. Plus, we aren't crazy about the name. But if that is a name you like, and want to use it for the car, then go for it!!

And going back to not liking Stella because it reminds you of the movie character getting her groove back:

Don't you just hate it when someone/something ruins a perfectly good name? Like Hitler; now nobody names their son Adolf anymore. Or someone you had a bad breakup from; just hearing the name brings back bad memories. Still some great names, but the references.... ugh.

I still like Stella though. I never saw the movie.

Forget about Stella from How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Stella is in The Italian Job also, the one who drove the original MINI so it would definitely be a good name.

iGoblin - As many times as I've seen that movie, I never caught that. I'll have to watch it again.

minicooperwil - you're pushing Stella because you'd get cookies - you sneaky snake But I'd do the same thing if in your shoes

My hubby thought I could give it a cool Autobot name (like from the transformers movie). He came up with Zip (for small and fast) but we're trying to put a name with it. I thought of Zip Silver...
