Need A New Transmission!

I'd go into detail about what happened to my tranny but it just gets me MAD!!! Anyway I need a new one for my 2004 MC non-s. Mine "broke" after just 55k. Does anyone here know where i can get a used one, new one, rebuilt one, whatever. I need to get back on the road asap! Plus does this sound like a normal thing for it to go bad after just a few thousand miles? I don't run it hard and a lot of them are just highway miles. id say about 35%-40% are highway miles. Is there like a class action suit that is being started or something becasue i've been reading a lot of posts about mini knowing that they were bad and decided just to throw them out there. Any help id greatly appreciated. Please help me get my car back on the road where it belongs!

What kind of transmission do you have?

The Midlands 5 speed is known to be a bit weak, and the CVT has had issues as well.

Have you talked to Mini about some goodwill on this? 55k isn't what you expect from today's transmissions and they have helped others out with some good will (cost sharing, whatever) when out of warranty...

There aren't a lot of CVTs out there, so it can be expensive to get a replacement. The Midlands can be rebuilt and one might be able to find either from salvage yards....

Good luck and sorry for the troubles...

Matt

Well thanks so far the only thing i've been able to get from the dealer is "Oh, I'm so sorry, but your vehicle is out of warranty. Would you like to schedule your vehicle for repairs?" On another note; does anyone know if the CVT, 5SPD, & 6SPD are all interchangeable? I have the 5 SPD MT right now and just wanted to know if I could use anyone incase i should happen to come up on great deal(crossing fingers).

Yes you can swap to another Manual transmisson. The only problem will be gear ratio change, so your cruise may not work. Also if you change trans you'll have to change axles, and they aren't cheap.

Where are you? That may help get you closer options.

Ok then i guess they are not interchangeable. If I had money to play with I sure would do it but as far as things stand I guess I'm just go and try to find another 5 SPD. Well If anyone happens to have one laying around the workshop I'll gladly take it off of your hands! Thanks for the link OXYBLUECOOP that was very informative. Im in SoCal WayMotorWorks LA area. If anyone can help lemme know!!!!

Danny at MiniCorsa does good work.

He's a bit of a wild man, but knows Minis!

Tranny for 3100 from dealership 2yr warranty parts/labor

You probably already have, but just in case here's the link to file a complaint about the tranny failure with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) - http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

NHTSA is looking to recall the cvt tranny but needs enough data on the safety related default trends.
