Picking up an '06 at Crown in Richmond Sat.

'llo all.

After lurking (and learning) here for a few weeks, it looks like i'll be participating as an owner very soon.

i've driven most of (and looked at all of) the '06 minis within 100 miles of my home (Columbia, SC), but ended up negotiating a purchase in Richmond, VA. I liked the idea of getting a MINI Next (certified used) car, since the nearest dealer is 80 mi. away and the Next warranty was the only one that was clearly OK with paying for towing the car any distance for free, without limitation. the final price on the car is low enough that if i never use the warranty, i won't feel bad about paying for it.

the car is a 2006 Cooper, 5-speed, royal grey/black with light grey inserts leatherette, premium pkg, sport pkg, cold weather pkg. it does have a silver roof/mirror caps, which i'm honestly not sure how i feel about with the royal grey, but it was more important to have the equipment and warranty i wanted.

plus, with one year left of law school, there's huge piece of mind associated with having a car i'm not going to have to spend $ to keep running for a few years. this car in particular had an in-service date of 2/07 and has only 30k mi, so i'll have several months of the maintenance plan, then a year and a half of factory warranty, then a further 2 years of CPO warranty. after the 1995 Jaguar XJR i just got rid of, i can barely imagine what not worrying about the next shop tab will be like.

provided the car is as nice as the pictures and salesman suggest it is, i'll be making the 300mi drive home saturday and sunday (night in greensboro), probably with a big grin on my face.

anyone dealt with Crown before? up to this point, the dealings have been excellent. Paul, the MA, was very quick to get me some extra info on the car after i inquired, was prompt in price negotiations by email, and has gone ahead and gotten most of the info/paperwork from me, so i won't have to do too much at delivery time. i'm sure buying a CPO mini is a grab-the-keys-and-leave affair, so i doubt i'll have one of the exciting delivery stories some other folks have posted.

in any case, thanks to everyone for the informative posts - the answers you gave years ago are still getting used.

This is my first post as well! I actually just bought my '09 Mellow Yellow Cooper this past Saturday from Crown MINI in Richmond. I dealt with Paul as well and found the whole experience to be very pleasant. I don't have too much experience as of yet but I don't think you'll have any issues dealing with Crown MINI.

Hope this helps and congrats!

Congrats on the new wheels, and thanks for letting me know you enjoyed working with Crown. From what I've seen so far of working with Paul, all will be fine.

If i see a brand new yellow mini in Richmond, i'll wave.

Sounds good! I was pleased to find that there is a MINI wave between drivers as I drove my shiny new car home from the dealer. It seems like a great community of owners so far.

Congrats on the car, I have a 06 MCS checkmate and have it serviced by Crown because the original owner did and he was happy there. Clay is the service advisor and Leah? in parts is also very helpfull when needed. Probably a good decision, the dealer usually beat other parts prices and is more than competitive if you want a roof rack installed. Enjoy

Welcome to the MINI world! A lawyer driving a MINI and not a BMW is rather refreshing to me. Good luck with it and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the welcome!

the car was even nicer than described, and the experience with Crown MINI was great. Paul had everything all ready for me and was extremely pleasant to work with. i cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone who need help purchasing a new/used MINI.

i won't be servicing it at crown, though, since it's about 320mi away from me. I'll do the servicing at Rick Hendrick MINI in Charlotte, NC, which is our closes MINI dealer.

i think all lawyers should have MINIs - it would probably make us a much less unpleasant bunch.

Congrats on the MINI!

For all those who will use Crown - I've been using them for a little over a year now and am quite pleased. It's about a 45 minute jaunt for me to get up there, but the service has always been courteous and prompt. I definitely recommend it.

Again - welcome to the MINIverse, no matter what you do/intend to do for a living! (although lawyership IS pushing it a bit...) just kidding.
