when we looked into it for mini5280 the cost was totally prohibitive. We would have needed on the order of 60 memberships each year just to pay the insurance premium.
That was through the insurance company that BMWCCA uses.

The Portland OR club looked into it, but also found it far too expensive and now just have people sign liability waivors before driving events.

So who has a bullet-proof waiver form? Do you have a form number or place to purchase these?
The one I used at my last event is very similar to one's I've seen other events and a lawyer told me that thing was full of holes. Sure enough I read thru it and understood it. You know things are bad when an average person can actually read/understand the wording of a legal document.

DiD, did the policy Mini5280 looked at, include racing/competitive events? If so, that will make the cost skyrocket.
All, So what type of annual charges are people seeing for club insurance without competitive types of events?

Racing and Competitive events were not included in our quote (as I said above the policy was very basic and it still was $1500, which we deemed prohibitive). Competitive events would have been handled on a case by case basis with a rider to our policy.
THAT SAID, for competitive events, our local track (2nd creek raceway) would let us buy a rider from them. We didn't persue that much either, because BMWCCA in Denver has welcomed the MINIs with open arms to their autocross events and drivers schools.

It was a long time ago, but I seem to recall that the club size didn't really play into it very much, at least within the confines of a club in the 60-120 member range.
