OMG!!! My new mods!

OK, so, I have an 03 cooper s the one with no sunroof for lightweight. So far I have an alta intake, rear seat delete, oneball exhaust and i think thats it. It has 67,000 miles on it. Today I put on a new Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve, and a 15% alta supercharger pulley.

HOLY SHI*!!!! IT is an animal now, it has power like I cant believe. The bypass valve works wonders, and my god is this thing fast now. Anyone with an older mini that still has the factory BPV, it is a complete pile. Replace it immediately. I did both mods myself. The BPV wasnt really that bad. The pulley gave me a lot of trouble and dont ever buy the craven speed puller. It is trash it stripped out completely and almost left me with a half off pulley. Luckily i was resourceful and got it off.

I did these mods with two buddies, they were not bad, actually enjoyable. I would have done it all 3 times to get the performance I am getting now. This thing can freakin move. I LOVE MY MINI!!!!!!!!

I am super addicted now however, and now Ill be getting new wheels and tires, complete custom exhaust, and then probably headers and injectors.
If any of you have any questions about these mods or the install ask me. I beg you to do the BPV it is so much smoother, and free flowing, easier to drive, and more responsive, if you were thinking about doing it, pull the trigger. Thanks to my buddies for all the help they gave, it was a blast. Craven Speed is going to get reamed a new one btw.

Thats my rant!

The pulley alone will put your MINI in a different league. It totally becomes a different beast as your rpm spools faster and you start having torque steer. Its great! Along with the DT BPV, your PSI increases by ~1 and builds up faster. Power to the foot. Great/essential mods. Mod for mod, I don't think any other mod except a larger supercharger or a larger head would give you that kind of power difference (pulley).

Yea Mrcooper is dead on, i dont think anything from any one will create the power that has just been created, i get so much torque steer, and can break my tires loose even in third. On top of that, your power becomes so much greater as your rpms rise, and ur boost builds.

I feel like it should be a law that anyone with an s should be required to have these two parts. Especially doing these mods simultaneously. Its amazing.......

Did you do any driving between the BPV and pulley? I've had a 15% pulley for a while but never did the BPV. I made 10 psi at redline stock and now I'm over 15. Now, I'll hit 10 psi under 3k rpm. The pulley does add some serious kick.

Well, I have a 17% at the moment without the DT BPV. I've driven a car with the BPV where the boost comes in instantaneously and without lag. I can't wait to order my BPV as the thrill of my 17% is starting to wear off..

The BPV gives me boost much earlier, and instant throttle response, it feels much faster b4 boost kicks in. The other thing is, the one i took off i could press the valve open with no pressure at all with my pinky. The knew one is like almost hard to open with my entire hand.

I put them both on at the same time, but im assuimng if u a mini with some kinda mileage on it, ur stock one is robbing u of boost, throttle response, and it would give u more boost over stock.

For give my ignorance as I've only had my car since January. I have a 2006 MCS w/ the JCW engine package. Would I benefit from the BPV?

Possibly. Most of the BPV on the MINIs are faulty.

Jeeze, you're adding to my laundry list of items I want Helix in Philly to do...

15% Pulley Reduction
CAI (maybe)
Borla Exhaust
Short Shifter
BPV
ECU map and Tune

My co-worker said the single biggest **** you can turn on the MINI is the 15% reduction... Once I reach 100K I'll be doing these things. 11,100 more miles to go. Thanks for the advice on the D.T. BypassValve... I remember reading about it or at least seeing an add for it in MC2 Magazine.

I would also definately do the CAI, it was the first thing and it gave me more s/c noise, and gave me a little more power. It also extended my redline, fer some reason my limiter would kick in before the actual red, and that opened it up.

Just remember peeps, the DTBPV will not "make" power, just as a intercooler will not make power. It only changes the way the power is applied. If you look at what Detroit Tuned says about the valve, it was developed more for the 02-04 S. Not to say it will not change any Mini, but it's not like adding a pulley.

The modified valve isn't for everyone...

For those that are new to it, the DTBPV started long ago as a stiffer spring you got and added into the valve yourself. The effect is that the valve closes with more vacuum (sooner), the transition is more abrupt, and the valve doesn't open as far as the stocker.

There are those that love it, and those that don't. It's not a universal cure or must have mod, more of a part that appeals to some and not to others.

For those who want to know the whole story, start here, the Yo-Yo Chronicles, one of the all time great threads on nam....
