Blinded by the light

Greetings 1st-Gen-er's from a new 2nd-gen owner!

I'm posting this query on behalf of a hip 60-something female family friend, Marilyn, who owns an '04 Cooper, "Stevie".

The sun blinds her (head-on and driver's window) on her morning commute. She asks - Is there any option for a larger (or clip-on addition) visor and/or some secondary aftermarket side visor? I suggested she start with an upper-windshield tint-strip, but that doesn't help with the side. She's leery of window tint for some reason, and too wondered if she might tint only the upper portion of the side window. I thought that might be odd and suggested perhaps a lighter tint throughout (..I think darker or 'blackout' tints spook her...)

I promised her I'd ask this fine community for helpful suggestions...??...

I'll forward her your responses...

And thank you all!

I use a 12" by 3.5" piece of card stock, like a cut up office folder, as a sun visor on the side. I stuff it up between the glass and the window seal. It stays nicely and can slide back and forth as needed. When not in use it goes under the sun visor... it might actually be shorter than 12", I don't recall.

yes they are selling oem visors on ebay, check dustins post about guy parting car. They are gray, the third visor down. I guess they are on 05-06, cause my 04 did not have it. If you find people parting out 05-06.

Thanks howsoon -- but to clarify -- I believe she said the problem is the oem visor's too small - looking for something larger, plus something for the driver's window..

And nabe - thanks too-- not a bad idea but she may be looking for something a teence more refined!

The direct link didn't work, but type in "sun visor" in the drivingcomfort.com webpage search box and it brings up some possible solutions ...

I wonder if wearing a welder's helmet might help... sometimes the sun as absolutely brutal. Might look a little bizzare to other drivers however.

Anyway, hopefully you found what she needs.

The pre '05 cars do not have the necessary mounting brackets welded to the roof structure for mounting a side visor or a grab handle like that.

I hope that was a joke. A welding helmet might stop the sun but it will also stop you seeing almost everything else.

Joke, of course. Peripheral vision might be a little restricted as well.

Are the 2nd gen ones larger? Mine take up most of my view and for the sun to actually get in my eyes it'd have to be laying on the pavement lol.

Im also kind of tall, but the visors are substantial for such a small window.

If they are, maybe a retrofit?

Clearly, your female friend has to change her route, so she never drives towards the sun. This shouldn't be too difficult

She could move to the other side of town, then on her commute the sun would be behind her.
