BAD choice...

No really...

You'll be way to spoiled for the rest of your driving life...

RocketBoy is right.

Get The cooper, Then at least ou can have a dream. Or else:

Get born.
Get MCS.
No Dreams.
Die of depression.

V's

Get born
Get a Cooper.
Get a MCS
Appriciate it,
Love Live.
Live forever.

Pebble.

PS. As a father who has just had his 16yo daugher wreck the family Spare. PLEASE drive carfully, and double check before you pull out into traffic. Those A beams in the MINI are wide and lead to a wide blind spot.

PPS. Have mercy, don't lean to drive in the new MINI.

PPPS.
Have fun.

Pebble? What is that supposed to mean? I know I am not the only Cooper owner that doesn't aspire to get a Cooper S. There are a variety of reasons why I like my Cooper more....it is all personal opinion. This is something that annoys me sometimes....some S drivers are more than a little snotty about their cars. And people that say "Oh you only got a Cooper....why not an S?" Like I made some kind of uneducated decision. To each their own, but frankly your statement really irritated me.

Sorry everyone I just had to vent a second.
All Minis are great in their own way and it is unfair to act like us Cooper owners should aspire to bigger things. I love my Cooper, it is a fantastic car. That is all I have to say about this.

Cheers.
L.Mini

Sorry L.Mini, I guess two smilies wasn't enough!
It was meant very light heartedly.

My first car was a clasic mini with an 850cc engine, That's why I have a new mini today, I know how fun they are! It was a joke, not a "more hosepower makes a better car is better troll."

L.Mini.....having owned an S, I'd definitely aspire for the cooper over the S today...but of course should they come out with a 200hp mini, then my aspirations would go there...lol! cheers...

It's ok....thank you. My boyfriend is in the market for a new car. He wants a Cooper....not an S. He like the body style better and he really doesn't feel the need to spend the extra money on an S because based on all his test drives he has come to the conclusion that for his needs they are remarkably similar. However all his friends are giving him hell for it and I am just like "what gives?" Two of them were saying it wouldn't be worth it if it wasn't an S.... I spent all the other night listening to this conversation and it made me really mad after awhile so whenever people say anything that remotely resembles a cut on the Cooper I get very defensive. Thinking back on it now...they just wish they had a nice car like I did instead of their tired old VW's....but that is something that they will just have to deal with themselves.

L.Mini,

Don't forget that Boys Compete For The Sake Of It so having 48 extra hoses to get to the other side of a set of lights matters to them..

Pebble,
I gotta correct you here, MCS has better handling than the MC.
You might be confusing handling with comfort

I like the MCS on paper but for everyday driving I prefer the Cooper. Right now I am entertaining the idea of getting a new second MINI Cooper in about a year or year and a half time. I am eager to see what MINI has in store for the 2004 model year in terms of performance upgrades and new body styles.

For us urban/traffic jam drivers, I would love to see a MCS offered with the CVT tranny.

Yeah me too.....I also have a CVT...but it will probably never happen. The supercharger won't support a CVT....
I would love to see that though!

I am pleased every day with my decision....I could never picture my morning commute (or even my evening commute) with a manual transmission. Inner city, stop and go traffic is too bitchy, in my opinion, for that.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, I love shifting my own gears but when it comes to rush hour traffic, a manual transmission becomes torture no matter how smooth the shifting/clutch action might be. For many years I drove Honda/Acura products with the smoothest stick shifts available at the time and still got sick and tired of depressing the clutch pedal several times during the drive to work or back home.

Today's automatics (Including the MINI's CVT) are so smooth, efficient and precise that putting up with a manual transmission seems to be a moot point, other than for enthusiastic reasons (Which are all valid by the way).

If I lived in a small town or in a rural area or did heavy highway driving or lived in Montana, Vermonth or Wyoming I would not hesitate in picking up a MCS for a minute.

I am sure with a small modification in the CVT slushbox, it could well handle the added torque amd HP from the MCS supercharged engine.

Congrats on your new car and drivers license. I hope you treat them both as though you would like to keep them. As far as the Cooper/CooperS rant goes. as you can see I appreciate them both. I am even considering a Cooper automatic for my kid's. My 6 speed Miata is an incredible rush. The 5 speed Cooper a relaxing joy to drive. The Cooper S should offer similar thrills as the Miata, but only similar. The Tracker will get me to work in the worst possible conditions. All are different except for 1 thing. They all put a smile on my face, and are great fun to drive. Conserve garage space drive the little cars.

I learned to drive in an original Mini, and owned 5 of them over the years in Australia. That was the original reason I was so interested in the new MINI. Of course, once I sat in one, and saw all the features that were never thought about on the original, I was hooked. Should be about 3 weeks before my Cooper S arrives (I hope).

Haha, was just thinking same thing as i clicked over to page 2 Pebble! Thanks for your input all! Drivin the Mini should be great, just worried bout the stick. I live in Wisconsin, but still do a pretty urban drive to school etc.

In the Next Episode Sh0e decides on some sort of system to put in...lol
