It was at the MINI Mania event at Laguna Seca. I thought it looked very slick in real life. Although I don't know if I'd use it as a daily commuter...claimed 225HP also. Love the wheels. 265 width tires in the rear...

Here's the only other pic I have. It had a lot of chrome under the hood, and I believe the body kit was from MINI Mania. The exhaust looks totally custom. Wheels were just totally Bad A$$...That's all I know. I'm sure anyone that was at the MINI Mania event at Laguna saw it...

Wow, the pics you took are just about like the ones I took. The wheels are made by Fiske, a company in Washington State.

Yeah, I also liked this car alot. The owners didn't drive it to the race, it came by way of a inclosed car hauler. We are talkin lots of Bling with this MINI

I like the rims, that's it. But it does look like the Renault.

I don't know how many of you have seen a Renault R5 Turbo, but I always loved those in the 80's. And this MINI looks really close to that style...very cool.

I would love to get some of those wheels in a smaller size to fit the regular wheel flairs of the standard MINI.

cheers.

Hey, just a thought. Does anyone have a photo of say...a 1985 Renault R5 Turbo (red looks best!) they can post a pic of to compare this look to? I find it interesting that the look of that car is coming back in 2003...
cheers!

Best one I could find in 5 minutes, and it does look very nice in the pic. You can see half of a red one.

Mmmm... R5. Yet another cool car we didn't get in the US.

I saw some pictures of that body kit a while ago - thought it was going to look absolutely ridiculous - but I gotta say it looks pretty cool in an "over the top" kinda way. Don't think I'd put it on my MCS though!

Renault 5 aka "Le Car" in the US. See also "the car that finally drove Renault from the US market" and "the French Yugo." (and btw, if we're saying that the MINI looks like a Le Car, I guess the Yugo has a passing resemblance to the MINI too)

Hum.....not my taste but to each his own.... It's amazing how doing this type of mod changes the entire look of the MINI....

Chow!

I owned a Renault 5 (LeCar) back in the late seventies...closest thing to a Mini on the market at the time and a fun car to drive...

I saw two street R5 Turbos at a Camel GT event at Lime Rock Park and Patrick Jacquemart driving this nimble monster in the GTU class against the Mazda RX7 and Datsun ZX...he sadly died at the wheel of this car in testing.

The Renault LeCar and The Renault R5 T2 aren't really the same car. They shared the same body, but there were significant mechanical differences. My point is that you shouldn't paint the R5 with the same brush as the LeCar. The LeCar was a total POS, as was that other Renault they sold in the 80's (Alliance?). But the R5 T2 was an excellent car, at least in terms of performance.

Significant mechanical differences is an understatement! The R5 turbo has no back seat. Want to know why? THE ENGINE IS BACK THERE!! These things are wild cars. They competed the WRC of their era, they could easily be tuned to have far more power than our MINIs... Then again its still French and the interior plastics were terrible...and the noise from the motor was insane.

R5 website

I'd love one though Now let's get back to talking about MINIs

Wait... I think this was a good thing. Weren't these little demons known to RUST excessively fast and almost too thoroughly, as in---return to dust?

This wide body just turns me off. So far, the only wide body I've liked has been the Belcar M3 powered racer. This kit does look good from the side though.

My friend has 3 R5 turbos, when I get my mini I'll do a comparison. Hes got 1 that's stock that used to run nitrous, another one he just purchased that he's going to use as a parts car if anything breaks and the last one has built internals, bigger turbo, custom cams, heads been ported, all kinds of other engine work, this car beat a Viper in the early 90s from 0-130. They're definately cool cars, sound awesome, decently quick in stock form and can be made insanely fast when modified.
