Well, I picked up a screw in one of my RF's this weekend at Ocktcooperfest. My car has a little over 1300 miles on it. Figures, right? I was told that it was going to cost close to $300 to replace one of those things if they couldn't plug it, so that REALLY ruined my day.

Yesterday, I took the tire over to my local Goodyear shop to see if there was any hope of getting it plugged. As soon as we rolled it in the door they told me it could not be plugged because the screw was too close to the sidewall. OK, that figures. That would be my luck.

BUT, the girl then asked me how many miles were on the tire. I told her and she got out her calculator and told me the new tire would cost me about $25. I almost jumped over the counter and hugged her!

I have heard stories of people having similar problems with their RF's and having to pay full price to replace their tires so I just wanted to share this. Apparently there is some kind of warranty on the tires (either from MINI or Goodyear, I'm not sure). They prorate the cost of the replacement tire based on the mileage of the damaged one as long as it's below 12,000 miles. I'm sure some of you already knew this but others may not and it could save you some $$$. Maybe this should be in the tire forum but I figured more people would see it in here.

I'm picking up my $25 tire this afternoon.

That was certainly good news, we're sure. Surprise expenses are never much fun.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

That is awesome news! I have the Pirelli eufori@ with a screw in it as well (to close to the sidewall also)1200 miles. I am waiting for one that I had to order. I wonder if Pirelli has a similer program? I have no problem hugging anyone for a $25 replacement

That is a very good news and man did you have $275.00 on the tire. Good one

My question is, did they charge you for the installation?

I think this is a Goodyear deal. I have always purchased Goodyear tires for my other cars, and have had them do this for me also. I don't remember being charged for installation.

It never hurts to ask!!!
I called Pirelli. They said they had a "good faith" deal and the dealer should call them. Well hey howdy! 50% off the tire cost. It wasnt 25$ so I was not compeled to hug anyone. Robyn, thanks for the info!!!

Nope. The $25 total she gave me included installation and balancing.

Final update:

The tire ended up costing me $32. There was a mix up originally and she had assumed I needed a 16" tire when I really needed a 17. That's where the $25 price came from.

The $32 was strictly the prorated price for the new tire. Mounting and balancing were free!

Jerseygirl,

How did you know you had the flat -- Did the flat tire monitor light up? Or did you see the screw first, before enough air came out to set off the light?

Good deal on the Goodyears! Our local Goodyear shop is the only shop in the area that has the right equipment to replace runflats...seems they need a special machine to remove/install the runflats on the rim.

Rock On,

-Joe

The light never came on. I saw the screw sticking out of the tire while the car was still parked at Ocktcooperfest on Sunday.

Same deal here. My Goodyear shop is the only one in a 50 mile radius that has the equipment to work on run-flats. They have people come to them from PA to have tires worked on. I imagine that's a slight exaggeration though. They may be the only Goodyear shop with the equipment but I find it hard to believe NOBODY else within 50 miles can work on these things.

Sorry to hear about your tire trouble. Glad to hear it came out well for you. I remember having about five flats with my M3 in one year, pain in my butt. Good things come to good people.

Charles, you've got me beat. My record is only 4 flats in a year with the M3.

Hi Jerseygirl,

Good Year prorates the tire, I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago to the run flat tire on the 95 corvette I used to own.

jerseygirl,

That's true, when I had my problem with a run flat I called all over to find a GoodYear dealer who could work on the tire (most can't), luckily I found one near my house.
