What does everyone think of including country and region on the member list as a quick referance for local owner support. Just thought it might be useful info at sometime. With many of us postioned quite some distance from a dealer, 125 miles in my case, local sources of whatever works would really be nice.

I think that information should be optional. If a member wants it to show or not.

Well actually it kinda already is....I know I don't particularly care if people know what city I am from (just as long as noone has my address ) and I believe I put it in my profile......I totally forgot about that.....

For example....Brownielocks appears to live one state over from me! Hooray for the east coast!

But could'nt sorting the members list by local be a great help to alot of us. Meets, rally info etc. Sure would be intresting to see how many other minis were in the aera and which ones ( color scheme etc...)they were. Just a thought

Funny you should bring up this idea  We're actually working through a redesign of both the registration process (to simplify it) so that it captures enough regional information to support a directory. This directory could then be used on a personal level to find MINI owners near you and/or to support the formation of local clubs/events/etc. Stay tuned for more information on this!

Ha ha! Since I'm in the middle of organizing the SoCal Caravan & MINI Meet at Santa Paula Airport on Oct. 6th, I'm REALLY interested in the regional data! It will help others plan events in the future.

Cheers!

I guess I should clarify my statement? If you have a website like me (and like Mark) the information of owner's name, address, city and state (and phone) is online. For those that do not know this I will not give out the URL that looks it up.

So I've NEVER hidden the fact I'm in Northern VA near DC.

Knowing the rest is also open to the public, well, I've changed the name, address several times (not real) and the phone. A few times I used a boss's address and phone. Or a cousin who said, "Sure go ahead. Put down my office location and phone."

I looked up MiniCooperOnline.com and know the exact address, phone, location etc. of MFerguson (who owns the domain.) Mark if you didn't know people could do this well....

So why did I say the information should be optional?

Because most members do not own websites and I feel their privacy should be their choice, and not exposed just because they joined a forum.

And, many people do not want sudden mailings about rally's etc. out of the blue unless they have specificially joined a local club.

I just didn't think that enthusiasm for the Mini should supercede anyone's right to privacy that's all.

But if you specifiy upon joining a forum that the information is kept private or public for social notifications that's another issue. It's just that you can't change the rules AFTER they join. See?

I agree with Brownielocks. When I first asked the question it was only meant as a general aera type of query. So if by the odd chance I came upon a MINI with three bears in it I could think "HEY maybe thats Brownielocks wheels. How neat!" Or vicey vearcy if someone from the list spotted my yb S and noticed the small Beatles Yellow Submarine hanging from the rearview. They might think "Betya that"s that Yellowsub nut from in the forum. Didn't think of mailing lists and the such. Just thought it might help in some community building. Could just keep a eye out for posting from the locals. Ya know thing like, good road with tight curves, the odd ols mini sighted, etc...God knows there's a loney Cooper out and about in the" big three" country, and Online is great but some reality would be nice too.

Yeah, I'd love to know who owns the yellow cooper with the random big black dots on it, in the Pocono Mountans area.
