Just bought an 03 MCS with 180k miles

I'm sure there are million of these threads, but here's another. I may win on highest mileage when purchased. 177k

It's electric blue, leather(w/adjustable lumbar), dual sunroof thing, 16" mesh wheels, multifunction steering wheel, body colored roof, black mirrors, black grill, oe aero kit, 6-speed, HID's(dunno if that was an option)

Also has the complete service records from the local Mini dealer. AAAAAND I'm the 2nd owner.

When I purchased the car it hadn't gone through inspection, and since it failed do to a bald rear tire they had to buy two new ones. So I also got two Michelin Pilot Primacy XSE's for free!

I just replaced the nasty, grimy steering wheel with a new leather one which happens to have the thumb grips(dunno when they changed it) and I bought an H&R rear swaybar. I need to order new front control arm bushings and figure out why the TPMS light is on.

Other than those small things, so far, so good. The car pulls strong, appears to be 100% stock(or was till I got it).

WOW. I'm approaching 100,000 miles, congrats, again I'm humbled by the milage on some of these minis. Best of luck on your next 177K!

Congrats - Yes I think you have the highest milage Mini at time of purchase.

Since you have all records, might be worth going thru and making sure things like belt, brakes etc have been replaced.

At that milage, you may be needing a supercharger soon (if it hasn't already been replaced). I just did mine at 191,000 miles. Maybe clutch soon - I'm still on my original.

Good luck, and congrats!

Nik

Oh, - reset the tire monitor and the light should go out. Its on cause you just got new tires. Hold button down (near parking brake), start car, release and drive off. Thats it.

My 05 MCS is at 78k. I was wondering what (if any) major repairs were done. I hope to keep mine for a long time and want to be prepared. xsmini, how much was your supercharger and labor to put in? Unless you put it in yourself.

Did it myself, so labor was 0, I just had parts cost, supercharger ~350 (ebay) water pump ~170, misc gaskets ~30 - So aprox $550. I understand you can spend 1800 - 2500 to have it done.

If I can get at least 150K out of the original supercharger, I'll be a happy camper.

Congrats on your car purchase.... But this thread is worthless without pics!

Hi guys - the only major item to be replaced was the power steering pump.

I believe I'm still on the stock clutch.

Attached are a few pics, including the new steering wheel.

Man you are styling!

That MINI looks like it was well cared after. Beautiful car.

You got a 2004 MCS steering wheel with the thumb grips and perforated leather. I used to have a '04 R53 S with this same exact steering wheel and do miss it. The radio controls in the back spokes and solid feeling cruise control buttons are no match for the 3 spoker steering wheel in my '05. I like the grip of the 3 spoker a little better but the sport 2 spoker wheel was the best of the bunch.

Enjoy the car!

Congrats on your new mini!
177K! wow! it's nice to see these engines in that range still running strong.

one word of advise. I would start putting a little cash aside for the inevitable rebuild. I would plan on the safe side of it needing it to be done at 200K.

Are the brakes on the S the same as on the non-S? Asking to see if I can run some wide 15" wheels on the car...

Can't help you on the brakes, but it always amazes me how well the finish and body of these little cars hold up. That many miles and it still looks new inside and out. I am sure it has to do with the type of people who buy them seems like only people that are willing to care for their car buy them.

Rebuild?

There is a guy in Ohio with a 2003 MCS still running strong at 307K and no rebuild yet. Ditto for another older gentleman in Wisconsin with a 2002 MC running strong at over 240K miles and no rebuild to speak of

It started making some noise. It still had life left, I just wanted to be safe. There was still oil (some, not much) in the ends of the unit. I haven't taken it completely apart to see if the gears were starting to get chewed (maybe this weekend).

As for wheels - if the brakes are stock I believe you can put 15's on it. Some use the steelies for their winter wheels.

Nice looking Mini!

15s will fit with stock brakes...as long as they are not JCW.

Good lookin' MINI! It's nice to see others who aren't afraid of buying cars with high miles on them. I got my '02 at 140K+, and I thought that was alot. Don't worry about the SC if it's still running well, just have it in the back of your head that you may need to replace it down the road. A used ebay piece is one route to go, or you could always have your SC rebuilt.

You wouldn't happen to have the old steering wheel lying around, would you? I'd be happy to take it off your hands for you.

I actually do, its in a box, too... in the trash but I can dig it out. The steering wheel is pretty nasty -- should probably be shipped in a hazmat bag. PM me.

Take a pic of the old steering wheel. I really want to see how an old and nasty wheel with 180K miles looks like.

I'm pretty excited about my purchase today as well. I just picked up a 03 MCS, BRG/Black with 17" wheels, HIDS, leather heated seats, rubber and new carpet mats with only 34k miles. Also has 6 speed manual. Traded in the 04 MC we had with 70k with CVT(glad to not worry about that anymore) and payments went up $24/month but only for 6 months longer, that's with extended warranty. Sorry to jack the thread for a minute, I was just reading and was so excited I had to share. Congrats on yours as well.

Pics won't do it justice. It's the feel.
