If it's in the wrong place, I apologize in advance to the forum members and moderators.

Anyway I have a 2003 S with 90K on the clock. In 1,600 miles I need to get the oil changed and I am due for plugs and wires. I am trying to avoid stealerships because I do not want another $500 bill for an oil change and plugs/wires.

Does anyone know of any mechanics that do work on Mini's in the Central NJ area? I hear there is a guy in Lakewood, but I cannot find his name or number.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I’m in NJ (South) but I suggest that you try Helix (Phila). Less than an hour. Extraordinary shop, MINI’s only. Many NJ clients. 215-739-8800. Worth the trip, imo.

Where in central NJ?

 

Oil change, spark plug and wires are all pretty simple DIY jobs. Do you have any friends that can lend a hand? You can buy the tools, and parts and get it done yourself for less than $250.

$200 for Oil Change, Plugs, Wires and Adjustment of my E-Brake.

Dealer wanted Over $500 for all of that!

 

Not everyone has access to skilled friends, tools and the like. I am in the camp of paying a professional to get it done right. I need my car to be as reliable as it can be. I don't like to cut corners just to save a few bucks here and there.

Find yourself a good independent MINI mechanic and you should be golden.

Yup that's where I am going. I have an appointment for this Friday.

 

I'll add my reccommendation for Dave at Autobahn. He's a great guy, does excellent work at a reasonable price - and he shows up at some of the NEMINI events in the area too. I had him replace my alternator and belt tensioner just a few months ago. Just give him the time he needs to fix the car right and you'll be happy...
