R50/53 Fresh Apples
When I got off of work on Saturday, Adrianne and I decided we wanted to do something other than sit around at the house like we always do when I work on the weekends. We decided a small motoring trip would be in order, but we couldn't think of any place to go. Finally we thought fresh fruit might be nice, so we went to the only place we could think of selling the freshest apples in the tri-state area. Barber Fruit Stand in Waynesville, NC. We motored up Highway 25 and onto highway 40 toward Knoxville. We passed some classic MINI's coming back from a car show in Flat Rock and got a picture of one of them. Beautiful weather going, not so beautiful coming back. Have Fun!

Thanks for the picture story! This Saturday we will motor to Michigan to do the same. We will kidnap a couple of grand-nieces, picnic in the middle of the orchard, pick and bring home more apples than we will ever use... do it every year!
God speed.
God speed.
Frog,
I need to correct you. That fruit stand is in Waynesville, NC, not Weaverville. That is where I am from and knew **** Barber who owned to orchard until a few years ago. Anyway, its a great drive and a great place to visit.

Another great Fall apple excursion is just up the ridges from the Mississippi, between Prairie du Chien and LaCrosse, Wisconsin. We made it several weeks ago and are returning again this weekend: beautiful landscape with lots of curvy roads for Minis.
I don't think they've seen many Minis yet though. The first comment I got when we got out at a restaurant was from a farmer who said, "what the hell is that?" I one of their posse a ride, he thought it was great except that the ground clearance wouldn't make it on the backroads (I agree), and they tape measured it when we got back. As an insecure male, I do admit everytime someone says it is cute, I have to add it is made by BMW and is fast. Oh, hangups...happy Fall everyone!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful Fall outing adventure complete with pictures.
I'm in boring seasonally deprived Hawaii and there is NO fall. Just rainy season and not rainy season. Or surfs up and surfs not up. When we drive to the northshore of Oahu in the summer we can get fresh Kahuku Corn and visit the fresh shrimp trucks. This picture is not but a few minutes from those places-

I do apologize Lakesands. I have fixed the typographical error.

FrogGuts,
I've been to that fruit stand. It's a nice one. It's also a lot of fun to pick your own. All around Hendersonville and Flat Rock there are apple orchards. I took my family to Sky Top Orchard outside of Flat Rock.

They also have apples pre-picked for you, if you don't want to go to the orchards.
It's a beautiful spot with thousands of apple trees. The kids' favorite was the Mutsu apple, and I agree, it was good.
Thanks for sharing your pics.
See ya,

Awwwww, poor MINIhune has to put up with beautiful mid to high eighties weather year round. Boo-Hoo!!! hee-hee, just kidding! the change of seasons is nice but I don't believe I would EVER get bored with the weather in Hawaii.
My friends and I are going into the mountains of Maryland (yes we do have them) for our annual mountain retreat weekend at the end of October. We used to rough it and camp when the kids were younger but now we rent a big house on Deep Creek Lake complete with hot-tub, numerous big screen tvs, pool table, and of course, a bedroom and full bath for each and every couple. Some of us have grandkids and we love 'em but for this weekend, no kids allowed. It's funny how roughing it takes on a different meaning as you get older.
Anyhoo, back to apples. There is a huge apple orchard on the way there and we always stop by on the way back to load up on pies, apples, preserves, and whatever else goodies they have. I'm low carbing this year so I will probably forget the pies but a good crisp apple will hit the spot.
