what exactly is a custom ecu tune? Can any autobody shop do it

 

A custom ECU (engine control unit, also called engine control module, ECM) tune is the re-programming/re-mapping of the cars' "brain" to take maximum advantage of any modifications or alterations to the engine.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but an autobody shop is probably not the most likely place to have it done. I think there are a couple of vendors here that do it.

Not sure about the NY area, but I believe GIAC is nationwide and very capable tuner. Check out the Cooper section of the forums and search the threads. Several guys got their MC's flashed by GIAC and were very happy with results.
