(MINI-Matt brought up the subject of demographics in a post by Randy concerning selling the Mule.) I'm wondering, has any one posted a thread to poll members for demographics? I'd love to see just who is buying/driving MINI's. Seems to be diverse group, much more so than say ricer cars etc. Age, gender, income range, and other typical categories as well as previous vehicle, mods or not would be interesting. Is there any one who has the interest and ability to create a poll thread? All feel free to contribute on this in terms of poll questions.

Me: Male, 30, Upper middle class.
Born: Brooklyn, NY (Crown Heights)
Home: Brighton, Mass.

Previous Vehicles '80 Ford Fairmont Green (automatic)
'87 Nissan Sentra Light Blue 5sp
'90 Toyota Celica Light Blue GT coupe 5sp
'99 Volkswagon Passat GLS 1.8T Black Magic 5sp
'03 Mini Cooper Pure Silver/Black/Black 5sp 11K miles
'04 MCS Dark Silver/Black/Black (on order)

Mods:
I leard about the joys of modding my VW passat from the wonderful folks on vwvortex. I didn't do as much as I wanted to but it was still the best car I've owned (next to the Cooper, of course!)

GIAC chip (1bar)
panasonic 8disc CD changer for $200
K&N Drop in filter,
Ronal R7 and Pirelli P7000's 225/45 R17.

The car turned into a beast with goobs of torque in every gear as long as you were above 1800RMPS!

Once I break in the MCS, I plan to get the pulley, Borla, intake and ECU for starters.

HAHA...What's upper middle class anyway? Does this have to do with income levels or whether you read the NY Times vs. the NY Post? I've been told I'm an aristocrat because I like my steak medium rare.

If I earn $100k per year (single income), does that make me lower upper class? But I do not have a college degree...so I guess I'm lower class now????

I personally feel that the MINI is beyond common demographics used in Marketing to sell a product to a certain group. It's fans are far reaching.

Owners are everything from a 16 year old with no personal income to rock stars with millions in the bank to 75 year old retired persons on a fixed pension and social security to the ultra wealthy who's family money was made in the 30s to the working man or woman who has to budget their money to get their MINI.

It's everyone all the time! MINI was never limited to a class. In London for years they've known that the royal family drove MINIs when they didn't want to be driven around in a Limo! and at the same time, it's what the lady next door drives to the grocery and what the average man drives to work!

MINI is about Personalization. -- It's the opposite of fitting into a mold!

Who loves a MINI ?
Ages : 3 - 93
Gender : Both
Income : Social Security - Millionaire
Social Class : All

This should broaden the dempgraphic even more!!! but 43 mpg). Kids have taken all my other cars which brings me to....

My Cooper...is unmodded well with none planned for now. I did a brakelight mod and got a shorty antenna but that's about it. I spec'd the car out very carefully and so it arrived tweaked perfectly to my taste. Still just enjoying that.

As for other demographics, I'm an artistic type (...one of the many here on MCO)...spent 20 years producing/directing/shooting documentaries. Made a career switch where I still do some of that (mostly hiring others 'cause I'm getting too old)and now even get to use those years of graphic arts training, too....all while helping protect the environment. (...for doc makers its always about the story.)

There have been previous posts about this subject, but it isn't unlike me to post again.

I've been told that my wife and I belong to a small select percentage in the US with an income not in the stratospheric range but not in the upper middle class range either but somewhere in between. I find it easier to say I am a 36 year old white trash man who works in a high income profession and loves the creative word of the arts.

What do I do for fun? Take artistic pictures of the MINI, play with Architecture, build them and play at the Renaissance Faires in California (mostly Tahoe), scuba dive, travel and post on MINI Cooper Online. Now isn’t this just sad?

>>My good man, or woman, as the case may be, Upper Middle Class is refering to the Socio-economic level of an individual. It can also be reasonably assumed that said person is also rather well educated and does indeed partake of periodicals such as those aforementioned by yourself in the above quote. Upper Middle Class generally refers to a single income of greater than approximately 50 thousand US dollars per year or a combined income for a married couple of approximately 80 thousand dollars per year. As to one's culinary preference for the basis of aristocracy, I am not in a position to radify that statement. I do hope this has clarified the designation of Upper Middle Class as it is indeed a subjective designation.

Goodness, where did you get those salary figures? 50k is no way upper-middle class in California where the average house costs 450k - I know, I used to earn that! Anything under 18k a year is considered poverty, so I seriously doubt that 50k is upper-middle class.

I thought that middle-class means you're above poverty, probably paying a mortgage, upper-middle means you own your own house, possibly your own business, and have at least some income from investments. At least that's what they (the economists) were saying a couple decades ago during Nixon's recession and energy crisis. Have we lowered our sights that much since then? It would be pretty hysterical if I was upper-middle class and didn't even know it!

53 yr old male here. I've always been immature but at my age that become a virtue: eccentric and still with it. Upper middle class by income, but pretty working class by inclination. College professor who does his best to balance that with arts on the side: visual arts, playiing guitar, and hanging with people much more musical than me (neo/alt or whatever you want to call sort-of-folk).

I agree with Pebbles, I hope Mini owners span the gamut and my guess is we do.

No major mods to mine. Maybe sometime but I am enjoy her just the way she is right now.

I'm 57, a married screenwriter, living in the LA area, have 2 dogs, sometimes make a million on a script, then don't work for 3 years. Gets a little crazy. I'm loyal to my friends, faithful to my wife, and promiscuous with my cars. I'm currently driving a 330CI coupe, before that a C5 Corvette coupe, before that a Jag XJS convertible, before that a Prelude VTEC. It goes waaay back. Really interesting cars - a 67 MGB, a '71 Saab 95 wagon, 1st year Camaro SS350 (I always thought the Chevy SS designation a little over the top),1st generation RX-7, 350 Z-Turbo, '65 MB 220SE coupe ( a great car to the drive to Unemployment to pick up my check back in 70's, it goes on.
But the only car I've really gotten irrational about is the MINI. Saw my first in '63 in London. Thought it was terrific even though I didn't know diddly about it. Still think it's terriffic and I can't wait for mine. Makes me feel like a little kid.
Motor On.

Age: Not sure, but the DMV gave me a license anyway.

Occupation: Unemployable. Live under a bridge, but it acts as a garage so things are good.

Income: Whatever bottles or cans that can be redeemed for gas money. I sometime work the car wash for the special money that makes life beautiful. Plus the free wax job I get for the days work. I consider myself in the upper middle class. I do know a few that have executive boxes in very prestigious alleyways, but never get invited over for that cocktail I love so much.

Leisure Time: Away from work I spend most of my time at the rescue mission looking for that formal evening wear and coins that may be in the pockets. My MINI’s too short to sleep in comfortably so I park by an abandoned '53 Studebaker President that works fine for leg room.

my economic level must have been below zero when I worked at Burger King for a year and a half, now Im a student for four more years, yeah...
No actual experience physically modding cars, but I know alot.

The one that really matters:
Male, 48?
Upper Middle class (lower upper class perhaps due to income, but if you think about it, 4 kids and a wife puts dad back down in the middle class, lol)
Prev cars: 2 94 GMC safaris (still have one), 1998 Toyota T 100, 1996 Toyota Tacoma (still have), 2001 GMC Yukon XL (still have), Motorcycle (before my time so I dont know)
No modding experience, but Im hopin to change that for him.

"Sometimes I make a million on a script, then I don't work for three years."

Plogout, when the rollercoaster of life is in that three year down cyle feel free to call on me to see you through. It must be of some comfort that you have a Mini in addition to the higher guzzling fleet to help you through the hard times.

Added to my previous post: first car was an aged '62 Plymouth Valiant, current other car a beat '93 Izuzu Rodeo (dog car), and I refuse to return those frantic needy calls from J-lo.

I laughed, I cried, this thread pushes at all human emotions. A tightly written suspenseful piece that leaves one with hope for the life experience of Mini owners.

Hey! What's 'a matter with Julianne Moore? She's sexy, smart, and nice. A very rare combo in Tinsel Town.
