Where to buy CVT tranny fluid?

I want to change the CVT fluid on my 04 MC project car. I called a dealer (far away) and they said they can't ship CVT fluid in smaller than 20 liter sized containers!

Is there anyplace other than a dealer to buy Mini CVT fluid? Does the fluid have to come from Mini, or is there an aftermarket CVT fluid that works OK, and what is it?

Might want to check out Redline. They sell it quart size for the manual.

Thanks. Promini has Redline ATF, but I don't know if that is what the Mini CVT uses, or if ATF isn't right for the CVT? Anybody know for sure?

I ended up finding a service garage that would sell me by the liter

I was never able to source the CVT fluid in less than 20 liters from a distributer

You can buy it at Bimmerspecialists but you also need to buy it in 20 liter quantity - don't buy anything but the correct fluid - it has to withstand pretty high temps - the fluid if I remember correctly is $285.00 for the 20 liter - My dealer charges $205. to change ( I asked him last time if my local garage could change it, they can of course but he said alot of times they overfill it - it should take 4.5 liter and no more. )

Thanks, we're getting closer. Sure would still like to buy it by the liter from somebody. I won't have much use for that much fluid, unless I plan to change the tranny oil 4 times.

Driving to a dealer simply isn't a viable option for me, if I can at all avoid it. I'd have to practically stay overnight in a hotel hundreds of miles away just to get my oil changed. That just ain't right!

So, you gotta figure, Mini (or BMW) isn't in the fluid manufacturing business, so they have to be buying that fluid from another manufacturer. Other autos use the CVT technology. Surely there is a 'brand name' out there that meets Mini's specs for CVT fluid?

Anybody?
