need your help (weird cvt issue)

Hello,

I have a 2004 mini cooper (r50) that i bought with cvt issues. Car has about 102k miles and the car was very well taken care of. It is stuck in first gear and can rev up to 6k rpm and get to around 30mph. Well He has never changed the cvt oil before so I know that is not good.

I bought 6 ounces of oil extreme concentrate and added it, and the car now shifts fine. Here is the kicker... It shifts fine when it is cold and freshly started. Once the vehicle reaches normal operating temperature, it goes back to being stuck in first gear. Oil extreme guys told me to put 10 ounces in, but that was after i bought the 6 ounce bottle. Im sure the oil helped to lubricate and possible handle heat. Should I add more or what do you guys think it could possibly be. I do not want to spend $$$ on a new cvt.

Thank You in advance, I truly appreciate it.

I would start by completely changing the transmission fluid with fresh oem spec fluid.
The best additive in the world is not going to rejuvenate 100K+ old fluid.

Welcome!!

You posted 3 hrs ago during normal work time . On a Friday. During the summer... Nice weekend. All of those 250 looks were from mobile devices most likely

I'm sure someone will chime in. I can't help you with CVT Diag other then Was the fluid low ? Where did the oil goo idea come from ? And hate too say it but there must be a billion threads on cvt issues as it wasn't MINIS greatest idea. I recall when they first came out that it reminded me of one of those balsa wood airplanes that you wound up the rubber band to get them too fly.

If I remember reading in the past 100k + was a lot for that trans. I suspect you don't have many choices here.

Good luck.

Did you do any further research into your CVT issue? I think the link I posted and the links contained within kinda answer your question.

Let us know how it turns out
