Coolent Dripping

I have an 06 Mini. Lately I have noticed that green fluid (Coolant I think) drips on my carport floor.

The car is not running hot and check engine light nor any other warnings have appeared.

Any suggestions on how to check this out, or what might be causing this?

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd check your coolant resevior to see if the level is going down. Don't open it when the engine is hot though.

Looking down from the top of the engine, look to see if any coolant is leaking into the plastic pan under the radiator. It will pool there if your radiator or maybe a hose is leaking.

I had this happen with my car a couple of years ago, mine was an intermittent leak. As it turns out, the radiators are made from plastic and aluminum and I believe the bond between them got cracked or loose. It would seal itself when the car was hot and then drip a little when the engine cooled down.

Had the same problem. Still under warranty, brought it to the dealer.
They replaced the thermostat housing and gasket. No more leaks!

I checked the reservoir and looks to be almost empty. The hoses and under the radiator doe not appear to have any standing fluid or stains like there is a leak, but I have green coolant on my carport.

Now can you tell me what type of coolant I need to put in my Mini?

I guess maybe I need to talk to my dealer about this problem also.

Thanks for all your help and quick response.

Appointment at 9 AM tomorrow to get leak checked out and repaired. I said I was still under warranty, I hope this is a warranty item.

namvet66: My expansion tank was almost dry before going to dealer. As far as coolant goes, I added MINI coolant that I had purchased on a prior visit. You may find varying opinions on type of coolant, but I am absolutely crazy about this car and OCD, so I didn't want to take any chances!

BTW, the repair was covered under warranty...so no charge.

Good luck!

Took mine in today and sure enough, it was the thermostat and gasket, changed and under warranty.
