Need opinions on 05 MCS pricing

Hi everyone, I have decided with some regret to sell my 05 MCS. I am curious as to how to price it. I have it on ebay local right now listed at 22k. It's an 05 MCS pw/b with 35k miles. Great condition, no mods (well I did ditch the run-flats) and located in socal. I have someone that will give me 20k, maybe 20.5k, but I'm not sure if that is good for private party.

If more details on the car help, here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...=p4506.c0.m245

On a somewhat related note, the local dealer is selling new MCS JCWs for 5k over MSRP for a 'market adjustment'. Although this is also the same dealer that charged 30k over on a new e90 M3.

Thank you!

She's a beauty with a ton of mod potential, shame you have to give her up, if it's as clean as you say then your 20.5k buyer is getting a great deal IMO as it's hard to find straight clean used Mini's, I guess it all depends on the action you are getting on it and if you can afford to take that price, good luck.

#20Works4me - Thanks for the feedback. I do really like the car too. As for if I have to take it or not, I guess that is the key question. I was trying to gauge what would be normally expected in this market so I wouldn't pass up a good deal because I highly valued the car.

OldRick - KBB came out to 22,545 for their description of 'Excellent' condition which I think this qualifies for, but obviosly trade-in values are lower and the 20k price seems to be more inlie with trade in values, but a couple grand above manheim auction values.

Thanks again everyone.

I was recently in the market for many months before I found the MCS we have. Your price is not out of line with other listings, both private and dealer. But I also noticed, there are a bunch of nice cars priced at or below KBB "excellent" are not selling. You can go on ebay and click for "completed auctions" and see what has actually sold.

So you may find get lucky and find the right buyer, or it may take a while.
Depends how fast you want to sell it. Good luck.

I see you are getting rid of it because of the forthcoming child. Does that mean you are now a 3 person family or larger?? Many of us have happily kept our MINIs and raised our children despite the common thinking that you need a "larger" and "safer" car for hauling children around. There are many benefits to keeping the MINI in the family--don't think I know of any child that doesn't like a MINI, lol. Anyways, there are many, many threads on this subject already...my son is 4.5 years and has motored since he was 1 month old.

I've always thought KBB was a bit high... Try Edmund's as well (which I often find is a bit low) and average the two. Not sure what the market is like out your way, but I'd guess that'd put you around 21k.

Actually my son came a bit early and surpsied me. I put the sale on hold since my full attention is on newborn care at the moment. (well I guess not full since I am here while he is asleep)

Thanks for all of the input everyone. With everything going on right now I am thinking I may just keep it for now until I can reasses.

I just did a quick analysis considering edmunds and kbb values for private party sale. I took the average value for edmunds and kbb at both 1st and 2nd tier conditions, then I averaged those two numbers together. This should give me a fair price to start from. The number came to 20,636.75. That seems pretty good to me.

Thanks again everyone.

I just put a car seat in the back of the MINI. What a F*ing pain in the a$$. Not to mention the angle of the seat makes it difficult to get the seat level and installed properly.

Unfortunately the mini is my only vehicle that my wife and I use so I am sad to say I think I will have to let it go after all.

For an infant seat--the Peg Perego travel systems---where the base stays in the car and the seat snaps in, is worthwhile.
http://www.pegperego.com/page.php?si...000000159&cl=N

Until the child is 6months old or so. Then it becomes a rear facing seat--at that point any rear facing seat is bulky and should just become a permanent part of the MINI. Once they can transition to front facing, this seat works very well...around 18 months or so.
http://www.safeguardseat.com/go/index.htm

It takes some adjusting but it folds flat when not in use--easily fits in the boot if you need to bring a 4th person without the baby.

Based on your post, it really sounds like you need to sell the MINI. Many of us with families and MINI's love our cars and were determined to find solutions that would work for us. If you've only tried the car seat once and that convinced you to sell it, then that sounds like the best solution for you.

OctaneGuy-

Thanks for the links. I have this seat whcih has a base that stays in the car: http://www.teutoniausa.com/build/sea...nfant_car_seat My problem is trying to get the seat in through the door behind the front seat and between the b-pillar. It barley fits and it rubs the back fo the seat and b-pillar to the point that I think it would scratch both. It's also hard to just wrangle the seat onto the base from that angle. This seat is rear facing, which is what I understand needs to be used for infants until 40 lbs or so.

Front facing would be easier and boosters where the kid can help get in would of course be no problem.

Thanks again for all the help.

Here is some interesting reading:

A common question asked by parents is, "How soon can I turn my child to face forward?" The universally accepted response is to keep your child rear facing to AT LEAST one year of age AND 20 pounds in weight. In fact, it is preferable to keep your child rear-facing as long as possible, and that may mean up to 30 or 35 pounds for most convertible car seats. The American Academy of Pediatrics and other Child Passenger Safety organizations endorse this philosophy.

http://www.car-safety.org/rearface.html

FWIW, my son is 4.5 years old, and is barely 40 pounds, lol. By this age, he's fully able to climb into the car, fasten his own 5 point seat belt, and he wants to be sitting forward to see everything. He was like that at 2 years, lol.--but wasn't probably until 3 or 3.5 where he could buckle himself in.

I specifically chose the Peg Perego system because I knew it fit the MINI. I went down to Babies R Us and they let me test fit the seats in my car. I also knew, at the time, it was the only stroller that fit the boot, and wasn't an umbrella stroller.

Rear facing seat

Question:
Have you tried lowering one of the rear seat back splits--and putting the baby into the base from the rear? It might be a LOT easier this way.

Right now I am looking at a 06 Mini Cooper S Premium, Sport, conveinence, rear fog, and some other tidbits for 22,900. Car is like new and only has 14k miles.

The other is an 05 Mini Cooper S. Everything but navi. 37k miles and is certfified to 7yr/100k. I currently have them down to 19k.

Just waiting on a trade value. I am sure it is not every day a person trades a z06 on a mini.

I'm trying to get $25k for my 05 with only 9,900 miles on it.
I think its worth it, but the right buyer hasn't come along yet.

Is that a JCW or just a S with JCW mods? Man these things are a expensive used. For a few more K you can have my Z06 with only 20k on it.

I bought the exact same car as yours with the following differences:

17" OEM Titanium wheels.

It came with 4 run flat snow tires on alloy rims.

Saae mileage, color, options etc... (Not two tone interior, just black)

I paid $19,750

You are right on the $money$ with the price.

just as an FYI, I sold my 05 MCS, same as yours except that I only had prem. pkg., xenons, front fogs with 15k on the clock for $20k a few months back. I am so sorry to let go but I wasn't allowed to keep both toys..... Good luck on the sale.

JIM_GRAHAM - Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad to know the pricing is good.

asaulo1 - Another good metric. Thank you.

Now I just need a buyer....

There is a special NAM price too, but I won't tell. You will have to use your mad internet skills to find out
