Turn off A/C, serenity now!
Hi y'all:
I wonder if y'all notice a serene waterfall sound after shutting off engine. The sound is coming from the A/C unit behind the glovebox. You know, the sound you hear at a dental office in the waiting room, with the miniature waterfall/stream. That's what mine sounds like after shutting off the A/C and engine. I am hoping that's just the condensation draining from the compressor.
I almost fell asleep while waiting for my wife and listening to the creek.

I found that my coolant returning to the coolant tank sounded like that when turning the car off. Unfortunately, that was when my coolant was really low also (had a leak) I suggest just having a look at your coolant tank to make sure it is still as full as it should be.

I checked the level with engine cold in the garage, it was slightly below MIN. I know it needs to be checked when hot, so I will check again at normal temp. There's no sign of leakage so far anywhere. No puddle, no greenish white powder around hose connections. So, if it needs top off, I hope this is just a normal loss of coolant after almost 3 years. It's due for change this winter anyway.
Thanks everybody.
Thanks everybody.
I think you were just hearing the equalization of the pressures in the A/C system thru the expansion valve...........it's a pretty normal sound. Most people don't sit in their cars quietly after shutting off the motor, we get out and go, so we wouldn't usually hear this.........

That's what I initially leaned toward as well. What other folks brought up was also good advise to keep my eyes on. Yeah, I wait for my wife often in a garage, and just feel like having some quietness sometimes...
I have heard a gurgling sound when shutting off the engine on my R50 that related to coolant levels...apparently to properly fill the system one must access several points on the engine and if this is not done, the system may make this sound as it is not full. I don't beleive this has anything to do w/ the AC though...so you may be hearing something else.
I was actually wrong about checking the coolant level when the engine is warm. Just checked the owner's manaul, it's supposed to be checked at ambient temp. That also means mine is too low since it's below the MIN mark. A trip to the dealer tomorrow then
