it'll just stay in place I think I'll get one. The mesh sunroof screen lets in too much heat in my opinon and the flag should take care of that. Thinking about ordering this and a Honda S-2000 antenna now so they'll be here when my MINI arrives.

Don't know about static cling but both Cooper Flags and CarVogue have sunroof flag options.

Bought 2 of the static cling sunroof flags, US and UJ. Remove, replace as the urge hits. They have been great with no problems. I think they are another good barrier to the hot sun.... their design showing through doesn't bother me. Most likely will not use them during our major winter storms though.

I have the UJ static flag, which by the way my English friends object to calling it the union jack, as that only is flown on ships at sea or something they say it is called something else. I love it. I originally just attached it to the the sunroof, but it blew off at about 80. I contacted yucca patrol who helped me in the error of my ways. Use a spray bottle with water and a drop of soap, and then apply with a squeegee. Everytime you wash the car be sure to squeegee the water that will get under it. It works great in the summer as it is like having a solid roof or close to it. I will probably remove it this winter.

It is easy to remove I just kept the backing and cardboard roll box it came in to store it in when it is off the roof.

Stupid question here. Where pray tell do you find the static cling flags? I know Cooper Flags has the permanent ones, but I'm not familiar with anyplace that has the removable ones.

Could be nice to have something to install/remove as the mood strikes.

Jerseygirl,

Try Minicooperparts.com. They might have what you are looking for.

I got my Static Cling UJ Flag from Minicooperparts.com, I've had no problems, and it is wonderful for keeping out the sun ( original equipment sun screen is a joke ).
I'm sure I'll remove it for the winter ( yuk )

I also got mine from minicooperparts.com.

(Unfortunately I don't have a Mini yet to try it out on, but hopefully soon!)

Hey thanks! Yeah, I'm not sure I'd want something that bold on the car all the time so a removable one would be cool. I'm generally the shy type that likes to blend into the background and not call attention to myself (though I guess I can't get away with that anymore in the MINI)

I found out that minicooperparts.com is now cooperaccessories.com and they still sell the vinyl static cling flags.

No problems in wind, rain, speed. I apply it by pouring windex on first. Think they suggest this for installation. Also, do it in the shade and then move car into sun while still wet.....seems to make it cling even smoother.

Minicooperparts is where I got mine too. Originally I figured this was an inexpensive way to get started on a roof flag....ended up really liking them...with a girl's option to change her mind as the moment hits.

Those wonderful piles of MINI add-ons....don't know how long your wait is, but those boxes can get high and take on a life of their own waiting. Bought my flag a couple of months before MINI arrived. It is addicting and only gets worse upon arrival.

This weekend I ran my MINI through an automatic car wash with the static cling sunroof flag on, and it came through perfectly...no need to re-squeegee or anything. The car wash was of the "brushless" variety, but it still makes physical contact with the car with some kind of cloth and plastic rollers.

I have had the flag on for one month now, and no problems with rain or high speed, both at same time, and now the final test...the car wash!

FYI, I originally applied it with soapy water and a squeegee, and used a blowdryer in a couple of small areas.

I really like these smaller Vinyl cling on flags. My '04 MCS does not have sunroof but the flag is also designed for solid roofs. I like the fact that it can removed at any time, is dirt cheap compared to permanent decal alternatives (MINI's flag is $180 and Cooperflags retails for $249 plus installation), easy to install and it does not cover the entire roof area so it lends to a cleaner, less cluttered and more distinctive look.

Does anyone have pics of one of these flags installed in a non-sunroof equipped MINI?

Cooper4us, no pix here - but you are right that it would definitely work on a solid roof. Using the soapy water application method, it is easy to slide around the 2 pieces to line them up.

One issue though is that one piece (I think the front one but I'll have to check) is slightly wider than the other, so you would not get a completely straight border on the sides...you would see a "notch" about two-thirds of the way back.

I'm getting ready to order and wasn't getting the sunroof due to the South Fla heat. do these decals really block the sun ? Any input from folks in hot climates is much appreciated...Thanks

I am in Atlanta and that's partly why I bought it. I think it does help quite a bit.

Bikeguy57, the static-cling flags are opaque so they do a pretty good job blocking the sun's rays.

My Static cling UJ blocks out the sun and greatly reduces the heat.

If you want the sunroof, this will work then you can open in winter or in the evening etc.
