My brother in Maryland is purchasing a 2003 Cooper that is supposed to have cruise control (it is a CVT). He called me and asked where it is; he doesn't have the manual---it is at the dealer. The car doesn't have the multifunction steering wheel.
Can anyone help? (I don't have cc so I couldn't help him.)
This comes up every once in a while. I think most people would just think cruise control would be standard....it's not like you have to use it if you don't want to.
It can be handy at times, and helps make resale easier, unless like this dealer you just say it has cruise.
Yeah, to be fair to the dealer, maybe he didn't know and assumed it had cruise control, i.e., he wasn't trying to pull the wool over my brother's eyes.
Uhm ... maybe not.
Have him ask the dealer to show him how the cruise control works. When the dealer realizes there is no cruise control your brother can then bargain him down some $$$ for telling him that it did have it. All he has to do is say that was helped him consider buying this particular MINI thinking it had CC.

Too late, he bought it already.
Apparently, according the Edmunds.com, the CC is a $130 value, so he didn't want to haggle over that. He had a laundry list of items for the dealer to fix, which they agreed to, so he's happy.
I'm gonna have a pretty happy niece---it is a surprise for her.
Make SURE he gets extended warranty with that car. Automatic(CVT) transmissions are non-serviceable AFAIK, so if it fails, it needs to be replaced as a whole. Guess what, over $5,000 to replace. You can search several topics dealing with CVT's here. I'm not saying that it will fail, as any transmisison standard or auto. can fail, but just for the peace of mind in the event that it fails...get the warranty
