I realize there's thread on this....but I didn't see anything regarding a comparison of the HK system with the standard 6 speaker system. Is it worth ordering the HK?

Whoops...perhaps I didn't read far enough. From some of the comments, I will be ordering the HK. Sorry!

I don't think that anyone really knows because the HK system won't be available until Dec 02 at the earliest. Most of the posts that I have seen have opted for aftermarket ICE systems.

Go with the after market sound. Has anyone every heard a great sounding factory unit? Plus you get so much more for your dollar with an after market.

Unfortunately, I didn't listen to the 6 speaker radio/CD player in the MC and MCS when I test drove them. Have you heard this system? Does it have reasonably sounding bass/treble range? I'm not wanting to really looking to add aftermarket system. I just don't want a monotone sound. I would be willing to pay for the HK if that system is as hot as some folks have alluded to in the Audio thread and if it is a vast improvement over the standard system. Thoughts????

I don't know how much people can elude to how great the HK will be as nobody has it or does any dealer have it.

All the HK system does is upgrade the speakers and add 2 more. Then the head unit is slightly modified for a whopping $550!!!! Youch

If you upgrade the speakers and head unity yourself (as I'm doing)... your system can easily be way better than the HK for about the same price.

I currently have the stock system, and it is barely adequate. I am thinking seriously about changing the speakers and seeing if that helps some. I have not really messed with the treble, bass, and fade yet to see if that helps, but my thoughts are that changing the speakers will keep the factory look and hopefully improve the sound quality.

Well, I listened to the radio during the test drive and for a factory radio, I thought it sounded great! It also got a good review in (I think) Edmunds. It is what it is, however just a factory basic radio/ CD player.

About a month after getting GBMIN, I decided that the stock sound was just not good enough.
Drove to a good stereo outfitter; I only wanted to upgrade the speakers ...

Well, we listened and decided the front door speakers were pretty good, but the rears were dreadful - no treble and not much bass either; very muffled.

So I had the rears (only) upgraded ... when I came to pick up the car, I had "good news, bad news": good news is the rears sound great now (MB Quarts), bad news is the fronts are not so good after all!

I still plan to replace the fronts as well ... the sound is MUCH improved with new rear speakers, and when I replace the fronts I am sure it will be better still.
Don't bother waiting for HK
