Nope. Gears 1-6 + reverse.

Otherwise, all 5 speed manuals would really be 6 speeds.

(And it's not a stupid question)

Nope. It's 6 forward gears, and one reverse. Look at the top of the shift **** in the marketing lit to see the pattern.

Some free unsolicited opinions:

- some peeps have difficulty getting into reverse, it's stiff and you've got to overcome some resistance.

- IMO, the sixth gear is quite useable. No need to downshift going up hills/inclines.

- Many peeps have taken to replacing their shift ***** with custom jobs. Do a forum search on "Whalen Shift Machine" for some of the obvious samples.

- FYI, 70mph in sixth corresponds to just under 3000 rpm on my S. That's a nice rpm *not* to have a drone if you go with a custom exhuast.

There's no such thing as "only 14" -- Mozart was writing symphonies when he was much younger than that.

And that's a perfect drawing! You nailed it!

Wow trippy, that's cool.
So, what does propel your car ?
It can't be just 93 octane.
All kidding aside, that is a cool shift ball.
My friend Peter would think your car is his spaceship for sure.
I don't know what propels Peter.

My son Peter thinks the MINI is his spacechip also.

And (for the life of me) I don;t know what propels him either.

One-more-trip-to-the-cabin and then 2nd grade starts.

well, thanks guys

another question;

what i was thinking was to get maybe an old Austin Mini Cooper and fix it up: 69 Austin Cooper Mk II (1275cc) runs about >$5000

thoughts?

and also, if i designed a mini on miniusa.com, how would i go about making it a reality?

eg, would i cruise the dealers looking for one, or would i send it off to the dealers, who would send it to england, who would build me one, and send it back, where i would pick it up?

yep, i'm planning ahead

like 3 years into the future

cause at 17, ima gonna get my pilots license and my mini would be paid off by then

Well, as far as the Mk 2 Classic Mini you are asking about. I picked up a MK 3 Cooper S about 6 months ago for about the same price. This baby runs real good. Was just on a Fun Run with the New MINIS. Pics in the Gallery. All I did was change the oil, flush out the cooling system, swap wheels and tires with my other Classic and pump up the suspension. This one is a keeper, no need to do a restoration on it. So, try to look around if your interested in a Classic to restore. I would want to start with one that runs and drives. It is easy to sink substantial amounts of cash into one of these things. Learn as much as you can first.
