Tachometer lights (still confused)

Per this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=24368

It still seems unclear to me if the 2 tachometer dashes betwe #5 and #6 are suppose to light-up. Are they only lighted-up on the R50s (because of the decreased redline)?

as said in the thread link you posted, MINI uses that tach for a number of different models. those lights are reserved for the MINI cooper diesel which has a much lower redline. my car has those two out, as well as 2 or 3 after the 6

Your MCS's redline is ~6750 RPM, so no, the smaller ticks do not light up below that.

Cool, thanks. Be nifty if there was an easy modification to convert them into a shift light.

hmmm...I thought the lights/lines are there as a variable redline depending on many factors such as engine temp, air temp, etc. Sort of like on the BMW M cars. Oh well, other explanation makes sense.

The CVT-equipped Cooper I looked at a while ago had all the lights illuminated.
