Rear Tag Lights

On Sunday I closed rear hatch and both tag lights dropped ontoo the ground, only one lamp lens was present. Both lamps were oxidized and one of the lamp assemblies has no prong to secure the lamp to.
Does anyone know where I can get another light assembly to replaced the defective one?

I had to get one of mine replaced last year. You have to get these from the dealer. If I remember they were not expensive (although mine was covered under warranty).

you can always try the local wrecking yard, or ebay, and the dealership as well.

Thanks everyone. I was able to locate 2 replacement light assemblies in RI for $35 each....(seems pricey) to me, or maybe I'm too much of a scrooge!

I was able to remove the entire panel that has both light assemblies and the rear hatch lever, trying to get the light assemblies does not seem straight forward, has anyone replaced these before and may have instructions with images???? I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Could you please explain what these lights are? Are these the ones under the trunk grip?

Thank you.

Ok, on the boot is a chrome trim piece above the tags. Under the chrome trim is the latch to open the boot. To the left and right of the latch are light assemblies that illuminate your plate when the lights are on. The right light assembly is heavily corroded, but still able to secure a lamp. The left light assembly one of the contacts is completly erroded not able to support a lamp. I have called all the salvage yards in the area and was able to locate 2lamp assemblies in Tiverton RI for $35 each. Please view the attached images. Should I replace the entire chrome latch instead of messin' around with the individual light assemblies?

While you have those out I would recommend you coat the contacts on each one with a liberal dose of dielectric silicone to keep future corrosion at bay. Sorry I have no experience with that install.

I was just out looking at the entire assembly and I think the best way to purchase another entire assembly. This would require cutting the lod one off at the leads and spplicing a new one on. Once the entire assembly is off there are no contact to disconnect everything is hard wired in.

I was referring to the contacts that the bulbs key into. That seems to be where the corrosion problem is.

Yes, I agree and plan on lubing the new assembly.
Can the dielectric silicone be purchased at a car parts store?

Yes it can. Sometimes it is labled as spark plug boot grease. Ask the clerk he'll know what you mean. It is very handy stuff to have around.

Good thing I had a chrome one in stock...it was nice meeting you. If you need anything just give me a call.

Ya...thanks again for everything.
I was nice talking to you as well.
I took a ride around the building and saw your ride, was it the grey R53 parked by the door?
The swap over went well, no issues and now my plate is illuminated.
Thanks again for the $ break.

Hate to pull a thread from the dead, but can anyone post the part number to the light assembly? Thanks.

I'm interested too. I've got my 04 with stock ones and wondered how much this would cost to replace. No more freebies
